I was searching through some old martial art fines and found this photo of the first group of students I thought the Southern Dragon Kung Fu System. I believe it was at IS 293, Nathan Hale Junior High in Brooklyn. These young men and women have all grown and have families of their own and a few of them like Jomar Sharpe and Adrian Crispoino still take time out of their busy lives to keep in touch and share some of their life experiences. Teaching martial arts has always been a passion and I appreciate the opportunity to pass on the knowledge and wisdom handed down through the generations. I always hope that my students past and present grow to be positive open-minded individuals who find ways to appreciate life. The good, the bad, and the indifferent. Thanks to all of you for teaching me as much as I tried to teach you.

As much as I love training in martial arts, I never really cared for public display or competing, but sometimes it's fun to join with others, meet new people, and learn about other systems. I have a great deal of respect for all those who enjoy the spotlight and train daily to improve themselves and their martial art. I believe that eventually, they will turn that competitive drive into a martial art way of life and continue to grow beyond their fundamental goals.

I would have to agree that some of the problems with some martial art systems is that there is little to no combative training and they spent more time on forms without an understanding of the function of the individual techniques.
