🖤 Meet Darla Sedlacek

Last up in our Common Ground instructor introductions is Darla Sedlacek!

Darla is a 1st-degree black belt from Hurricane Jiu Jitsu, a psychologist specializing in sports psychology, and has more than 25 years of martial arts experience.

Plus, her competition résumé is impressive. 👀

Darla is a multiple time World Champion in both Gi and No-Gi, with additional multiple top World, Pan and European podium finishes across her competition career. Not to mention, she’s still out there competing regularly at black belt and adding to this résumé!

But there’s a lot more to Darla than medals. She's spent years teaching and supporting women's jiu jitsu, and her background in psychology gives her a unique perspective on the mental side of training and competition.

🥋 Darla will close out our seminar lineup Sunday, November 8 with Takedown Strategy, Outside Passing & Mindset. Along with the technical side of takedowns and passing, Darla will bring some of her psychology background onto the mats to talk about the mindset side of jiu jitsu, too.

💪 Good luck on Friday to our fearless leaders!

The owners and head instructors of OAJJ step out onto the mats in Las Vegas at nearly the same time, both competing at IBJJF Worlds this week.

Bryn and Derek believe in leading from the front. They train hard, compete, push themselves, and continue putting their own jiu jitsu to the test right alongside their students.

They spend countless hours helping their students train, grow, compete, and get better. Now, it’s their turn to step out there and represent OAJJ on one of the biggest stages in jiu jitsu. 🖤❤️

🖤 Meet Wendy Kuhn

Next up in our Common Ground instructor introductions: Wendy Kuhn!

Wendy is a black belt from Grove City Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a longtime member of the Air National Guard, and a multiple-time IBJJF Pans & World Master Champion.

And this isn’t a title she earned once and stopped chasing. 👀

Wendy has continued competing and winning through multiple belt levels, including bringing home the gold at Worlds as a black belt. She has years of experience putting her jiu jitsu to the test on some of the biggest competition stages in the sport.

But there’s a lot more to Wendy than medals. She brings a thoughtful, technical approach to the mats and genuinely loves helping other women learn and grow their jiu jitsu. She’s a familiar face at women’s open mats throughout the area, always showing up, taking rounds with everyone, and supporting the growth of women’s jiu jitsu however she can.

🥋 Wendy will be teaching Gi Mount Attack Sequences on Saturday, November 7 at Common Ground.

🥋 Congrats to our newest gray/white belt, Harley!

Harley has put in the time, continued to show up, and kept working to improve when he steps on the mats. It’s been awesome watching all of that consistency add up and seeing how much he’s grown along the way.

This one was well earned. Congratulations, Harley! We’re proud of you and excited to see what comes next!! 👏❤️

🎉Congrats to our crew who competed today in Cincinnati!

We took a small but mighty group out today to get some competition experience and we're so proud of them! All of our competitors today were white belts in the beginning of their journey, and some were even competing for the very first time. We saw some amazing jiu jitsu, tons of growth from the repeat competitors, and some really hard-fought matches with so much heart.
