Helena High welcomes home, 2017 graduate, Landon Gaskins who will take over as head coach for the girls soccer team. Coach Gaskins served as captain of the school's first ever team state championship in 2016. As a soccer player he earned all metro, all county, and all-state accolades and represented the north in the AHSAA North South All-Star Game. Gaskins graduated from Troy University and earned a Masters in Education from the University of Montevallo. Gaskins began his coaching career at Calera High School where he lead the team to the program's first ever 6A Final Four appearance and was named Shelby County Coach of the Year. In 2025 as part of the Oak Mountain coaching staff the team was the 7A state runner up and ranked 8th in the nation. Coach Gaskins will be teaching History at Helena. He is a proud husband to wife Audrey Gaskins who is joining Helena Elementary this year, and father to son Beckham. He is looking forward to giving back to a community that means so much to him and the Huskies are excited to have him back on campus!

Sixteen area athletes named to 2026 All-State softball team Softball players from Thompson, Oak Mountain, Helena, Spain Park, Chelsea, Shelby County, Vincent and Cornerstone Christian received All-State selections.
