Don't make this training mistake ❌⬇️ Changing your program every two to three weeks because progress feels slow. Adaptation takes longer than most people expect. The first few weeks of any new movement pattern are mostly your nervous system learning the coordination. Strength and visible change come after that, usually around weeks four through eight when the pattern starts to feel automatic. Switching programs before that window closes means you keep restarting the learning phase without ever reaching the adaptation phase. The effort is real. The return is not. Consistent lifters are not doing anything dramatically different in any single session. They are doing something repeatable across enough sessions for the body to respond. At Aguirre Fitness, our personal training approach is built around this. We build plans that progress week over week so the work compounds instead of resets. The sessions that feel routine are often the ones doing the most work.

Rest periods are not dead time. They are information. Most people treat the pause between sets as something to survive or skip.

But what happens in those 60 to 90 seconds tells you a lot about where your training actually stands. Here is what to pay attention to. If your breathing returns to normal quickly, your conditioning is improving.

If your muscles feel ready before the timer ends, the load may be too light to drive progress. If you are still shaking at the two-minute mark, the weight is honest and the rest is earned.

For compound movements like hip thrusts and lateral raises, rest long enough to perform the next set with the same control and range you used on the first. Cutting rest short usually means cutting quality short.

Progress is not just what you lift. It is how well you recover between the work.
