Legacy Swim Club

Legacy Swim Club Formerly Nova South Swimming—this page
is to promote our youth swimmers! Both teams retain governance of themselves while they both represent the name NOVA.

Our team has a culture of personal connection and a focus on individual progress. 🦁❌🐑 Virginia Association for Competitive Swimming (VACS) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the promotion of competitive swimming in the greater Tri-Cities Virginia Area. VACS offers instruction, training, and competition to young people of all ages and abilities. In the summer of 2013, VACS aligned

themselves with NOVA so that we could have a larger presence at meets and access to state, regional and national opportunities. VACS is also known as Nova South. Nova South serves swimmers from the cities of Hopewell, Petersburg, and Colonial Heights, as well as Prince George, Dinwiddie, and southern Chesterfield counties. We are convenient to Fort Lee and welcome the many new members of the growing military family in our community.

Graduation post for one of the most special humans I have ever had the privilege of coaching and knowing. 🖤💛

Brendan is curious about everything, ridiculously smart, thoughtful, kind, honest, and deeply invested in the people he loves. He works hard at everything he does. He asks the best questions, notices things other people miss, and is genuinely one of the most fun people in the world to tell a story to because he is completely invested from beginning to end.

And there have been a lot of stories.

Horrific bird eating turtles. Shenanigans with Whitney. Cooking and bike riding with Bliss. Money making schemes with Ryan. Lifting with Terrell. So many beach trips. So much Waffle House. And I cannot wait to hear the stories from the next ten years.

Then there is Brendan the swimmer.

Backstroke, IM, butterfly, whatever we needed, Brendan could do it and do it well. NCSA qualifier. Senior Champs finalist. Age Group Champs finalist. Team record holder. He could be put into almost anything and find a way to get it done, including distance, which he has now officially sworn off. 🤪

We watched him grow from a kid into a strong, confident athlete competing at an elite level, and he did it while making this team a funnier, warmer place every single day.

But ask anyone on this team what they will remember about Brendan and the answer will not start with a time. It will start with a laugh.

It is the conversations. The ridiculous stories. Brendan and Ryan turning ordinary practices and endless meet days into memories Natalie and I will talk about for years. It is the way he made people feel, the way he loved his people, and the way this team was simply better because he was here.

The record board will hold his name, but the stories will hold it longer.

Brendan, you are an absolute joy in every way. Coaching you, watching you grow up, and getting to know the person you have become has been such a gift. You will be missed more than you could possibly know.

I cannot wait to see where life takes you next, but I know one thing for sure.

You are a firework. 🎆

Summer swim season ends, and for a lot of families the same question comes up. 🤔

The honest answer is that the swimmers who keep developing are the ones who keep swimming. Not necessarily with more pressure but with consistent coaching and practices that protects the progress a swimmer worked all summer to build.

We put together the questions we hear most from families deciding what comes next, and answered each one with the same honesty we bring on deck.

New swimmer evaluations are open now. Schedule yours at legacyswim.com. 🦁
