As we celebrate Independence Day, please take note of a few temporary changes to our operating schedule:

🎾 Thursday, July 2
⚠️ Partial Opening – Tennis Courts will be unavailable until 6:00 PM due to lighting maintenance.

🚧 Friday, July 3
Closed for parking lot resurfacing.

🎆 Saturday, July 4
Closed in observance of Independence Day.

🕙 Sunday, July 5
Delayed Opening – We will open at 10:00 AM.

On April 9th launches our first event of 2026 HYLAND and HIGHFILL: An Untold Story of Modernism in Richmond

Bud Hyland introduced modern architecture to Richmond in the late 1940s after apprenticing under Frank Lloyd Wright. His bold residential design challenged tradition and changed the architectural landscape of our city.

Then came Page Highfill.

What began as a mentorship became a partnership and ultimately a legacy that allowed modernism to manifest itself in residential, commercial, and institutional building types throughout Virginia.

To explore this remarkable story, we’re bringing together this exceptional panel:
Architectural historian, Jody Lahendro, FAIA and Patrick Rand, FAIA -Professor Emeritus of Architecture- NC State along with Bryan Highfill, Page Highfill’s grandson, who will offer a rare and personal perspective on the life and work behind the legacy.

The conversation will be moderated by Modern Richmond chair, Maggie Schubert, AIA, LEED AP BD+C and Past Chair Trey Tyler, ensuring a dynamic and engaging evening.

This is more than a conversation.
It is history. It is architecture. It is a legacy.
It is the untold story of of Richmond’s modern origin.

We are excited to share a very special upcoming event that connects directly to the roots of our Club and the legacy upon which it was built.

Modern Richmond is excited to launch 2026 with this great event:
HYLAND and HIGHFILL: An Untold Story of Modernism in Richmond.

In the 1940s, Bud Hyland introduced modern architecture to Richmond – bringing light, landscape, and a new way of living to a traditionally historic city.

Then came Page Highfill.

A mentorship became a partnership. A partnership became a legacy. And modernism didn’t just arrive – it endured.

Join Modern Richmond on April 9th for a conversation with special guests Jody Lahendro, FAIA; Patrick Rand, FAIA; and Bryan Highfill moderated by Modern Richmond Chair : Maggie Schubert, AIA LEED AP BD+C and Modern Richmond Board Member: Trey Tyler.

On Saturday, April 11th we will be touring several properties, including two homes that Page Highfill designed for himself during his career.
