Reminder we are closed Mondays...curious why? Well, Hi Desert Bikes was open 7 days a week from 1991 until 2009. When George's Mother suggested closing at least one day a week, George simply didn't want to because he never like letting a customer down. So he remained open 7days a week for what seemed like forever. Sadly, as many called her "Grandma" the well know lady who drove the custom painted bmx themed mini van around town- passed away unexpectedly in 2009. That is when George knew he had to close his doors once a week to spend more quality time with his children and grandchildren. We miss "Grandma" everyday, but know she is so proud of her son and his accomplishments and dedication to being the best bike shop in the High Desert. With her in mind, we are smiling as we close for good to fully embrace what life has ahead of us. We thank everyone for the kind words and we'll wishes to George for his upcoming retirement. We are hearing so many people ask why George is retiring and not passing the business onto his kiddos. Remember small mom and pop shops of the good old days were run by the whole family. This is true for Hi Desert Bikes aswell. Since 1991, George's Mother did all the behind the scene work- trained George's daughter Michelle she has been helping since day one- George's son Scott worked for many years as the bike and rc mechanic. Even George's son in law Alex, worked for the shop since the mid 1990s. We have all put in a fair amount of work, and the retirement benefits us all as a family. We will miss being the bike shop people and are glad to have so many people show their support and emotions with our closing. Reminder last day open is August 29th.
