To my facebook friends and family and to all past and present Hialeah Athletic Association (HAA) players, parents, families and friends,
As you know, Hiram Perez passed away April 7th from a sudden and unexpected massive stroke. Hiram worked with HAA for nearly. 40 years, volunteering all his spare time and energy to the children of Hialeah, so that they would have a safe, nurturing environment to play baseball. Through the years, he coached and managed, even when the children were not his own, he worked diligently on the board, he helped children of the league travel to other countries to play baseball and did whatever it took, including removing water from fields, developing team schedules around everyone’s needs, making league decisions and rules, always with the sole goal of improving children’s lives and opportunities. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, coach, manager and person and is sorely missed.
On September 21st, 2014, the Marlins Stadium will hold a Memorial in Honor of Hiram. A block of tickets has been held for those interested in participating. The Marlins will play the Washington Nationals that day at 1:10pm. Before the game at about 11am, baseball players from HAA, dressed in uniform, will be allowed to march on the field in honor of Hiram (cleats are not allowed, only sneakers) and after the game, the Memorial in Hiram’s honor will be held at which time the children can run the bases on the field. It’s a great opportunity for the kids and one that would have made Hiram very happy and proud.
Tickets for this event have been reduced from $25. to $18. If you are interested in honoring Hiram for his commitment to the children of Hialeah, please reply here or pass by HAA any weekday between 7 and 9pm to purchase your tickets. Please hurry. Tickets will only be sold for a short while longer.
