This is step four of the Hawaii Efoil Experience five-step beginner progression system.

Touch and go.

It sounds simple. But what Mark is demonstrating in this clip is one of the most important skills in all of eFoil riding β€” pitch control.

Up. Down. Up. Down. Three clean repetitions in under 30 seconds.

Every ascent and descent is controlled by one thing β€” the deliberate shifting of Mark's weight between his front and back foot. Weight back and the foil rises. Weight forward and it descends. No guessing. No luck. Pure body awareness and weight distribution working in real time.

This step exists in our progression system for a specific reason.

Before a rider ever attempts sustained foiling, carving, or surf conditions β€” they need to trust their own ability to control the pitch of the board. Not just understand it conceptually. Feel it physically. Build it into muscle memory through deliberate repetition.

Touch and go is how that happens.

Mark is a local Hawaii man in his 60s β€” some surf experience, a deep love for ocean activities, and a natural feel for weight distribution that makes this step look as smooth as it should when done correctly.

Three ups. Three downs. Complete control.

This is what step four looks like when a student trusts the process and follows the coaching.

Master pitch control. Master the foil.

This is Rodney.

70 years old. Riding a Foil Drive in Waikiki on a fun wave. And doing something that every powered foiler in the water should be doing β€” but not everyone does.

Watch what happens as the surf lineup comes into frame.

Rodney doesn't push through. He doesn't test the distance or try to squeeze one more section out of the wave. The moment the lineup is in range β€” he kicks out. Cleanly. Confidently. Well before he gets anywhere close to the surfers on the inside.

That's the rule. 100 feet minimum between your powered foil board and any surfer in the lineup. Every time. No exceptions.

It doesn't matter how good the wave is. It doesn't matter how much space you think you have. It doesn't matter whether the surfers are watching or not.

You kick out. Every time.

Rodney is 70 years old and has been in the foiling community long enough to know that the way we treat shared ocean spaces today determines whether we get to keep riding them tomorrow.

That's not just etiquette. That's stewardship.

Good kickout, Rodney. You set the standard.

Respect the lineup. Protect the sport.

Two video clips. One session. One hour apart.

Same student. Same board. Same location on the south shore of Oahu.

But look carefully at the water in each clip β€” not at Sam.

The top clip shows the early part of Sam's first eFoil lesson. Relatively calm surface. Clean water. Manageable conditions for a first-timer learning to feel the board beneath him.

The bottom clip is one hour later.

The wind picked up significantly within that single session. The water surface tells the story β€” chop building across the frame, wind waves hitting the rails of the board, surface energy pushing against Sam from multiple directions simultaneously.

To the untrained eye, the difference between the two clips looks subtle. Almost identical.

To a rider on that board β€” it is a completely different challenge.

Sam is a local Hawaii man in his early 60s β€” a mix of Hawaiian and Filipino, stocky and athletic, conservative and composed on new equipment. He achieved foiling success in small doses during this lesson. But the changing conditions limited what was possible in the time remaining.

This is one of the most important lessons in ocean-based riding β€” and it has nothing to do with technique.

Conditions change. Sometimes gradually. Sometimes within the hour. The rider who stays aware of what the water is doing β€” for the entire duration of their time in the ocean, not just at the start β€” is the rider who makes better decisions, stays safer, and progresses faster.

Ocean awareness doesn't begin when things get difficult.

It begins the moment you enter the water.

And it never stops.

George is a confident, athletic first-timer β€” about 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, comfortable in his body and ready to learn.

But in this clip, he isn't on foil yet.

And that is exactly right.

This is takeoff speed β€” the critical moment just before flight where everything either comes together or falls apart. Board perfectly level. Stance forward. Speed building steadily. The foil loaded with lift and ready to rise.

What George is doing here is rarer than it looks.

Most new riders rush this moment. They feel the board accelerate, sense the foil beginning to load, and immediately shift their weight back β€” trying to force the liftoff before the board is ready. The nose rises. The foil stalls. The board falls back to the water.

George isn't doing any of that.

He is staying forward. Keeping the board trimmed level. Letting the speed build naturally. Trusting the coaching. Not rushing toward flight.

The result is a perfectly trimmed board just kissing the surface of the water at takeoff speed β€” exactly where it needs to be before the foil lifts cleanly into level flight.

The controlled fall at the end of the clip is George pushing his comfort zone at higher speed while beginning to execute small turns. That's not failure. That's exactly the right instinct at this stage of the progression.

You don't rush the skim to get to the flight.

You master the skim β€” and the flight takes care of itself.

Aaron stalls four times in this clip.

Same cause every single time.

When a new rider plays with the trigger trying to find the right speed β€” the foil reacts immediately. The nose rises. The angle of attack changes. The foil loses lift. The board falls back to the water.

It looks like a speed problem. It feels like a speed problem.

It isn't.

It's a trigger discipline problem β€” and it's one of the most common mistakes we see from riders in their early sessions.

The correction is simple once you understand what's actually happening beneath the board.

Level board first. Steady trigger second.

Before you ever think about speed β€” find a level board on the water. Then engage the throttle smoothly and hold it steady through the transition onto foil. Don't chase the feeling. Don't pump the trigger. Trust the process and let the foil find its own level flight.

Smooth and consistent input always beats fast and reactive on an eFoil.

This is what trigger discipline looks like β€” and why we teach it from lesson one.

Tai is 52 years old. Lives in New Mexico. Has some eFoil experience from prior lessons β€” but this is his first time with Hawaii Efoil Experience on Oahu.

And his first time in the open ocean.

Tai's goal is surfing. But you don't jump straight to surf conditions β€” not if you want to actually get there. The first step is learning to handle what the open ocean adds to the foil before you ever think about dropping the trigger on a wave.

Chop. Swell energy. Wind. Reef pressure. All of it hitting the board simultaneously for the first time.

This session β€” lesson four in Tai's progression β€” was his introduction to all of it.

First time out of flat water. First time in real chop. First time feeling the ocean push back against the foil in a way that flat water never does.

In his own words:

"This is fantastic. First time out in open water, first time in the chop. First time I ever felt the power. Great instruction. I highly recommend it."

Tai is 5'11", 195 pounds β€” a fit, athletic build that translates well to foiling. But fitness alone doesn't prepare you for open ocean energy. That takes progressive coaching, deliberate sequencing, and the patience to earn each step before moving to the next.

That's the Hawaii Efoil Experience surf session series.

Flat water first. Open ocean second. Surf conditions third.

Each step earned. Each session building on the last.

Tai's goal is surfing. He's on his way.

Gray skies. Rain hitting the camera lens. Rain stinging the eyes on every wave.

Two foilers out in Waikiki anyway.

Because in Hawaii, rain is liquid sunshine.

And liquid sunshine means rainbows.

We didn't catch one on camera β€” but we caught shoulder-high sets, nonstop waves, and an empty lineup that we had almost entirely to ourselves.

This is raw, unedited footage from a session most people would have skipped. The conditions weren't ideal. The sky wasn't pretty. The camera lens was soaked.

None of that mattered.

The waves were there. The foil was ready. And the ocean doesn't care what the sky looks like.

This is what it actually looks like to love what you do β€” not just on the perfect bluebird days in paradise, but on the gray ones too. When the rain comes down and two people look at each other and say β€” let's go anyway.

That joy is real. That optimism is Hawaii.

Rain means rainbows. Even when you can't see them yet.

Jeremy and Kit flew in from California.

Surf background. Skate background. And a day job flying C130s for the Navy.

When Lisa found out they were naval aviators before the lesson started β€” the bar got set pretty high.

No pressure.

In this video, Jeremy and Kit share their honest reaction immediately after their first eFoil lesson with Hawaii Efoil Experience on Oahu β€” before the lesson, during the reveal, and right at the water's edge after they came in.

Here's what two C130 pilots thought about their first time on an eFoil:

"Once you get out of the water, get up on the foil β€” it's just so smooth. Just get a good flow and cruise."

"A little tricky at first, getting up on plane and getting that wing doing its thing. But once you're on top of that wing β€” ain't nothing like it."

And their advice for anyone hesitating?

"If you can stand up on a skateboard, you can stand up on a foil board."

"If you're down to surf β€” you should do this."

These are two people trained to operate complex aircraft in demanding conditions. They called our coaching system smooth, credible, and worth every minute.

That means something.

No script. No prompts. No editing of their words.

Just a dozen or so people β€” right at the water's edge β€” telling us exactly what they thought after their first eFoil lesson with Hawaii Efoil Experience on Oahu.

Different ages. Different backgrounds. Different expectations walking in.

Same reaction walking out.

This is what happens when the coaching is right, the progression system works, and the ocean delivers something people didn't know was possible before they tried it.

Over 90% of our first-time students foil in their very first session.

These people are proof of why.
