🩰 Dance Education for Ages 50+ Lynne Chervony Belsky, M.D.

Many dancers instinctively know how important it is to get back to class after an injury or illness. and Lisa Gold—who are cousins and breast cancer survivors—found that conventional dance classes were difficult during early recovery. A dear friend and mentor had always taught Lynne and Lisa to “Dance for Joy”—her personal motto. Lisa and Lynne found that they had similar shared desires to create and teach dance classes that go beyond just the steps. This inspired them to create a dance class just for cancer survivors where they could feel the comfort and compassion of being with others while enjoying the freedom and therapeutic aspects of dance. The goal of these classes is for all participants to enjoy learning an art form known to improve many aspects of life while experiencing a non-judgmental atmosphere. Whether novice or experienced, dancers will optimize their quality of life with improved balance, flexibility, posture and strength. All classes take place in a dance studio with uplifting music. The pace becomes gradually challenging for participants as their bodies respond and recover. Dance For Joy classes are for cancer patients. These classes focus on each individual with the goal of healing body, mind and spirit. Time To Dance classes are for ages 50 and up. Participants will embrace freedom of movement while experiencing the health benefits of dance. Classes are being held at North Shore School of Dance. The first class attended is free and drop-ins are welcome (registration required).

Our studio was co-founded by a dance educator and a physician and a former Joffrey ballerina with one specific goal: to create a welcoming dance space exclusively for people over 50. 🩰✨

Our classes are built from the ground up to focus on things that matter as we get older, like physical balance and the memory practice that comes with learning choreography. It’s a fun space where you can study real dance technique alongside a welcoming community of people.

What a fun Sunday at our Free Day of Dance! ✨🩰

Our studio was buzzing with so much energy today! From Tap and Modern to Salsarobics, Broadway Jazz, and Ballet, it was incredible to see our community coming together to have fun through movement and celebrate the power of dance.

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us to try something new, and to our amazing instructors for keeping the energy so high! We loved wrapping up the afternoon sharing some treats and great conversations with you all 💜

We had the absolute best time at Arts on Sheridan yesterday! ☀️🎨

Our dancers loved performing, but the highlight of the weekend was getting everyone on their feet to learn a dance together. There is nothing like the joy of movement bringing our Highland Park community together! 💜💃
