One of the best days we’ve had on the Great Lake all year! Awesome to have 3 canoes on the water and a really good swell from the NE!

We had an AWESOME practice this morning. 3 canoes running intervals in close quarters to simulate the start at CJ. Strong work by all and tons smiles at the end. At the end of practice we did a sprint race for Wokciech as he is headed to singers for world’s soon!

What a great weekend racing the Hudson River cup! We are super proud of men’s, women’s and mixed teams! The mixed (Chi-Town Coho) were 2nd in 40+! A huge mahalo to Ke Aloha Outrigger and all the volunteers for putting on such an amazing race in a challenging venue! We will be back!

Today we partnered with Culver Paddlesports Alumni, Culver Academy and the City of Culver Indiana to put on the inaugural Outrigger Canoe Sprint Regatta on Lake Max! It was a “soft” opening so to say. A chance for us to learn how to put on a sprint race involving youth, community and club divisions. All of us walked away feeling excited about the future and what this event could become!

This all started a few years ago when a few Culver alumni reached out asking for help to develop an outrigger program at Culver. Through connections, we found Joe Laurel who has built programming and coached the staff! Kana Lui Miami Outrigger Club were a huge help loaning us (to get started) and then eventually selling us three of their standard canoes. This year provided the fourth canoe.

The Culver Paddlesports Alumni’s paddling pedigree is impressive to say the least with multiple Olympian’s, National Champions and big race winners in many craft (K1, C1, OC, SS, marathon). It is so great to spend time with a group of people as passionate about the water and teaching the next generation as we are. Thank you!

Lake Max is in the middle of cornfields in Indiana! It is about 9miles in circumference and now home to Outrigger Canoeing!
