Investing in a (good) coach means you have someone on your team who wants you to win, succeed, and follow through.

You win with access to:
- knowledge to help you achieve your goals
- someone who can meet you where you're at
- structure to keep you focused and intentional
- support to keep you accountable

Athletes win with coaches because they can focus on the doing while the coaches do the guiding.

It’s September first, so that means it’s going to start looking like this outside soon!!! 👀

Honestly, fall is my favorite time of year to hike and run.

Crisp mornings.
Pretty colors.
Comfy temps.

It’s all around a solid time to be outside touching dirt.

I know it’s not *officially* fall yet, but dare I say I’m stoked for it!

Do you need to lift to failure to gain strength and muscle?
No.

Do you need to lift CLOSE to failure to gain strength and muscle?
Yes.

Aim to leave 1-4 reps left in the tank or an RPE 6-9 most of the time.

You can gauge and learn about your RPE (rate of perceived exertion) by:
1. Testing your max weight for a 1RM, 5RM, or 10RM for an exercise and adjusting your targets for the future.
2. Noting whether or not you need the full prescribed rest period. Feel ready for the next set after 20 seconds? It’s probably too light.
3. Are the reps moving slower and more shakily by the end of the set? Sounds about right 😎

Remember:
❌ Push to failure everytime
✅ Push CLOSE to failure most of the time

To be better at running…

Yes, you’ll want to run.
AND you’ll want to strength train.

Strength training allows you to —
- move better
- feel stronger on the trail and pavement
- be more fit on and off the trail
- stride with power
- support overall health

More running isn’t always the answer.
Smarter training is ⚡️

If you wanna spend your dolla dolla bills on fitness —

1. Get lifting shoes with a wide toe box so you can separate your toes and feel the floor when you squat, deadlift, lunge, etc.

2. Get a water bottle you ACTUALLY like. It makes a difference in whether or not you’ll consistently drink water and stay hydrated throughout the day.

3. Quality coaching is worth the investment if you want to train with intention and achieve your goals quicker.

4. CARBZ 4 LYFE. Buy your carbs. Eat your carbs. Eat them with every meal (primarily fruit, vegetables, and complex carbs — yes rice, potatoes, grains, etc). Eat them intra-workout (more so simple carbs). Eat them post-workout. If you want to perform well, get stronger, and gain muscle, eat carbs (alongside a well balanced diet with mod-high protein and healthy fats).

5. Quit lollygagging and go on an adventure with your friends! Those $500 flights will be the best $1K you’ve ever spent.

Last month we celebrated our ninth year in business at Kathletics.

As I reflect on another year of coaching, I'm filled with gratitude.

What started as a passion for helping people build strength, endurance, and confidence has grown into a community of athletes who continue to show up for themselves, embrace challenges, and prove that fitness enhances their life.

Over the past several years, I've had the privilege of celebrating PRs, race finishes, strength milestones, hiking adventures, and countless moments of consistency with hundreds of men and women. Watching athletes discover what they're capable of is a big part of WHY I do what I do.

One thing that hasn't changed over the years is the mission behind Kathletics: to help you build sustainable fitness that keeps you fit for life.

Let's keep it going for many more to come! 🤘🏼

The basics of squat, hinge, push, pull are essential for runners.

These foundational movements are typically focused on the bigger muscle groups + smaller stabilizer muscles, which are all necessary for a well-rounded program.

When it comes to the smaller muscles, like your hip flexors, ADductors, and calves, these are also important to address as a runner.

Your hip flexors help with:
- leg turnover (speed)
- hip stability
- uphill climbing

Your adductors help with:
- hip stability
- running efficiency

Your calves help with:
- power generation
- shock absorption
- ankle stability

Your hip and ankle stability plays a large role in your running form and efficiency. Sprinkle in some love to these areas weekly to improve strength, endurance, and power on and off the trails.
