A Gary Player design, it was Player’s first course in the Hilton Head area and was open for play in 1974, making it Hilton Head Plantation’s first golf course. While the golf course is the main attraction, it is the lasting friendships that make Dolphin Head Golf Club so special. How much do you know about our course designer, Gary Player?

A South African, Player made waves in professional golf starting at age 17. Six years after turning pro, he won his first major, The Open Championship. He is on the shortlist of players to have completed the Grand Slam and the first non-American to do so.

Player is also known for his dedication to fitness, which is likely why he is able to do his trademark "high kicks" every year at The Masters. His focus on fitness plays into his course designs, including Dolphin Head.
