Great ride at The Wompy Training series last night. With over 20 riders at the start line (and no rain in the forecast), the group was primed for a fast competitive training ride. Those foregoing a warmup beforehand were hit with a blistering pace on lap 3. The 2mins45sec lap @ 30 mph split the field into two groups: a front group of 4 riders followed by a chase group of about 12 riders. The leading 4 riders quickly built a 30s lead over the next few laps. Between laps 7 and 17, the lead held steady around 50s-1min with the chase group of 10-15 riders even cutting into the lead on some laps. While there was decent teamwork in the chase, it ultimately could not close the gap below 50s and began to lose steam in the finale. Up front, the lead 4 riders started to splinter towards the finish as attacks mounted. First time participant, Christian Ricci crossed the line first ahead of Dan McCabe.

Wompy 7/1 Recap - Great Ride Everyone
Weather gods finally provided a decent night for fast riding. And it was fast from the start. Average speeds approaching 30 mph on laps 2-5 with a group nearly 20 strong. Urged on by half a dozen spectators on the homestretch, the riders completed 25 laps in just under 1h 17mins at an average speed of 26.2 mph. The field stayed in one group throughout the ride except for a few breakaway attempts that were ultimately swallowed back up. In the end it was a field sprint to the finish – Congratulations to all who rode.
It was great to see so many junior racers riding last night. Now that we are officially into summer and hopefully have some stretches of better weather, please spread the word. It’s a great ride to learn riding in a group. Late arrivals welcome to jump in whenever.

Wompatuck update
Unfortunately, the road construction Is still not complete and we will not be able to ride this week. The new drainage pipe was installed last week, but the hole needs to be filled and paved. With any luck we hope to resume on 5/27 if there are no additional delays. Thank you, Chris
