Knee valgus and the collapsing of foot arch can be very problematic. The number one reason in my book is the increase risk for ACL tear. Here is an interesting exercise I tried out trying to prevent the knees form caving in and the foot arch collapsing. Give this a shot.

Improving max velocity speed isn’t necessarily just about trying to run faster every single time. If we break down what actually needs to be happening at top speed we can find these 3 things:

1. Insanely short ground contact times.
2. Massive amount of force produced in those short ground contacts.
3. Those short ground contacts and massive amounts of force being produced on a single leg.

Now it’s a lot easier to see how we can run faster at top speed. Those are 3 things we can work on to get faster. Produce more force, do it in a shorter amount of time, and do it on 1 leg.

If you want to dodge better you can JUST practice dodging. You need to improve the attributes that with actually make you dodge better. And those attributes are acceleration and change of direction. If you can change direction harder you, can fake out your defender better. If you can accelerate better, you can create more space between you and your defender.

The numbers speak for themselves.

Tyler came in with a goal. We built the training around it, tracked the right metrics, and let the results tell the story.

No guessing.
No “just work harder.”
No random workouts.

Just structured training, progressive overload, and measurable progress.

So if you don’t have stiffness in the ankles or the Achilles tendon it is likely that your acceleration is lacking because it is much harder for you to drive and create a positive shin angle. So, isometrics, plyometrics, reflexive work, and obviously sprint training will improve this specific attribute. BUT, tendons take much longer than a muscle to adapt to stimulus. About 3 months to see noticeable change. So, the earlier you start, the better.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Do you have heavy feet, long ground contact times, and are struggling to build elasticity, but aren’t sure where to start? Ankle pops and submaximal pogo hops are the perfect place to start. Whether you are coming back from injury, you haven’t trained in months, or you just flat out want to feel lighter on your feet, start doing 100 of these daily.

You’re going to lose your speed if you don’t train it!!!!!

This is one of my favorite elite first step acceleration.

There is a big difference between what looks cool and what athletes think will work, and what ACTUALLY works.
