The Deep River Grinders Base Ball club is a historical program of Lake County Parks & Rec It’s more than the sport that entices players to join the Grinders.

The Deep River Grinders have been playing base ball by the original rules of 1858 since they visited the Ohio Village Muffins in 1991. It’s the spirit of the game, the gentlemanly competition, and the friendly connection with their cranks. Routinely playing to a home audience of 200 or more spectators lining the sidelines and outfield, Grinder games are like a great big family reunion even for newcomers.

Your beloved Deep River Grinders make the annual pilgrimage to Columbus, Ohio, this past weekend for the Ohio Cup!

Hosted by our great friends, the Muffins, the Ohio Cup brings together vintage base ball clubs from across the nation. For two days of base ball, great competition and even better camaraderie.

A huge thank you to the Muffins for once again putting on a fantastic weekend and welcoming the Grinders with open arms.

Ending the Ohio Cup with laughter and great friends is always the way to go. Thank you to the The Ohio Village Muffins.

As we do every year, the last game the Muffins play at the Ohio Cup is with the Deep River Grinders. It's a tradition we hope will go on for many years.

It’s a milestone celebration years in the making!

For 150 years, Wood’s Historic Grist Mill has stood along Deep River as a quiet witness to generations of stories, celebrations, and everyday life. It has been 50 years since the restoration by Lake County Parks. Today, Wood’s Mill still stands as a symbol of conservation and community.

Come spend one of our last summer Sundays this year creating new memories in a place that has connected people for generations.

This Sunday, August 30th from 2 PM to 5 PM, we invite our community to gather for a double milestone: celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Mill’s 1876 construction and the 50th anniversary of its 1976 restoration!

• Live barbershop quartet music • Ice cream sundaes & sarsaparilla floats • Old-fashioned games

Back in June, the Deep River Grinders traveled north to Minnesota to play ball at the invitation of the Fillmore Fungi.

The Grinders were taken aback by the splendor of the Driftless Region, but even more so by the graciousness and hospitality of the clubs we had the pleasure of playing. From the beautiful ball grounds to the people who welcomed us, Minnesota left quite an impression on all the Grinders who traveled north.

If your club has never made the trip to Minnesota to play vintage base ball, you are missing out. Find a way to change that.

Good ball. Beautiful country. Even better people.

The Grinders will certainly make a trip that leads north again.
