🚲 HOLLISTER, IT’S TIME TO PASS THE TORCH. ā¤ļø

For 25 years, Brian has been much more than a bike shop owner.

He’s been the Bicycle Man—the guy who helps people with their bikes, helps someone who may be struggling, and shares his love of bicycles with our community.

That’s what Off the Chain Bikes has always been about. ā¤ļø

Now we’re looking for someone who would love the opportunity to carry it forward.

Someone who loves bikes.
Someone who loves people.
Someone who wants to own a business that is already a part of the Hollister community.

🚲 Could this be your next adventure?

And if you know someone who might be the perfect person to take the wheel, please share this post!

. I am very willing to negotiate in the asking price and would like to stay working at the shop to help make the transition smooth and successful for the new owner. Every town needs a bike shop. This is the only bike shop in town. It’s a means of transportation for some folks, it’s a way to keep your body and mind healthy and it’s just plain FUN to ride a bike!

Bike rack setup matters more than most people realize. šŸ˜…

A few things to check before every trip: make sure the rack is rated for the weight of your bikes, that each bike is secured at the frame and not just by a wheel, and that nothing is spinning or shifting at highway speeds.

A quick tug test before you pull out of the driveway can save a lot of heartbreak down the road. Come in and ask us about rack options if you're still figuring out your setup. šŸ™Œ

ā˜†ā˜†Episode 8 of Jin's Travel's bicycle journey across the United States.
During his ride toward Las Vegas, Jinwoo arrives in Hollister, California, where an unexpected act of kindness from Brian and Robin turns into one of the most touching moments of his journey.ā˜†ā˜†

I recently watched a video on the YouTube channel Jin's Travel, and it deeply moved me.
The story begins in Hollister, California, where Brian and his wife, Robin, live. Brian owns a bicycle shop called Off the Chain Bikes.
While cycling across the United States, Jinwoo, the creator of Jin's Travel, happened to stop by Brian's shop because the brake pads on his bicycle were completely worn out. What seemed like an ordinary repair turned into an unforgettable encounter.
Brian, whose Korean name is Moon Young-gwang, was adopted from Korea to the United States when he was just 14 years old. After fixing the bike, Brian unexpectedly invited Jinwoo to his home, offering him a free place to stay for the night.
As they shared dinner together, Brian opened up about his life and his adoption story. Although they had never met before, they quickly felt a special bond simply because they were both Korean. It was a connection that went beyond words.
The next morning, as Jinwoo prepared to continue his journey, Brian quietly handed him 100 dollars. It wasn't about the money—it was his heartfelt way of expressing affection and encouragement. Robin was so emotional that she couldn't hold back her tears as she said goodbye.
Before leaving, Jinwoo invited Brian to visit Korea someday so they could ride bicycles together. Brian said that since being adopted and moving to the United States, he had never had the chance to return to Korea.
What began as a simple visit to repair a bicycle became a touching story about kindness, shared roots, and the unexpected connections that can change people's lives. It reminded me that sometimes, complete strangers can become family, even if only for a brief moment.

I’m Brian’s wife and thought Hollister should know that HOLLISTER, YOU HAVE SOMEONE SPECIAL.

His name is Brian.

For Brian, working with bicycles has never really been about the money.

It’s about people.

It’s about helping someone who can’t afford a repair.
It’s about helping someone who needs a bicycle to get to work.
It’s about helping someone who is struggling.
It’s about helping people who might otherwise have nowhere to turn.

Brian has helped homeless people with their bicycles. He has fixed bikes, found ways to help when someone was short on money, and shared his knowledge simply because he cares.

He doesn’t do it for recognition.

He does it because that’s who Brian is.

For 25 years, Brian has been part of Hollister’s bicycle community through Off the Chain Bikes. And while many people may know him as ā€œthe bicycle guy,ā€ there is so much more to his story.

ā¤ļø Hollister, let’s tell people about him.

If Brian has ever helped you, your child, your family, or someone you know, tell us your story in the comments.

Send it. 🤘😤

Summer at the bike park is its own kind of magic. The dust is flying, everyone's pushing a little harder than they probably should, and somehow it all works out.

Bike parks are one of the best ways to build confidence on technical terrain in a controlled setting. If you've been curious about downhill or enduro riding, this is the time of year to give it a try. šŸ˜Ž

August heat adds a whole new layer of difficulty to big efforts, and hydration is the first thing that gets away from people. šŸ’§

A good rule of thumb: drink at least one bottle per hour in hot conditions, more if you are climbing or pushing hard.

Electrolytes matter just as much as water. And if you feel thirsty, you are already behind. 😬
