The truth about creating fame (the resource of having peopleā€™s attention) is that youā€™re going to have to be seen while youā€™re trying, while youā€™re failing, while youā€™re winning and when youā€™re making mistakes. People will root for you. Theyā€™ll root against you. Your job is to stay committed to what you are and what your mission is even when you are misunderstood. That is the work: showing up anyway.

ā€œIā€™m too old for this.ā€ Babe. No.

Anyone can be famous. Not too old, not too young, not too late, not too anything. The thing actually stopping you isnā€™t talent. Itā€™s your cave-person brain doing its one job: keeping you alive.

Back then, getting kicked out of the tribe meant you didnā€™t survive. So when you think about a million people seeing you, your brain hears ā€œDANGERā€ and hands you a very reasonable-sounding excuse.

That excuse isnā€™t a fact about you. Itā€™s a fear about being seen.

And fear? Itā€™s a feeling. Feelings last about 90 seconds if you let them.

Fame doesnā€™t go to the person who never feels fear. It goes to the person who can feel anything for 90 seconds, stay visible, and keep going.
