Colin Kaepernick is marking 10 years since the protest that sparked a national conversation about racial injustice and police brutality. In 2016, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback began sitting—and later kneeling—during the national anthem to call attention to the treatment of Black Americans.

A decade later, he continues to support communities through his activism and philanthropy. Through his Know Your Rights Camp, he has worked to educate and empower Black and Brown youth while supporting organizations focused on social justice and community development.

To commemorate the 10-year milestone, he is pledging another $1 million to community organizations, continuing the financial commitment he made when his protest first drew national attention.
