One of the more creepy looking sealsugs around ! Found this little guy while looking for the famous Ghost Nudi around Bangka Island.

The Phyllodesmium Colemani is a striking species of nudibranch, or sea slug, found in warm Indo-Pacific waters. Unlike many brightly colored nudibranchs that warn predators with vivid patterns, this species often has a soft blue, gray, or translucent appearance that helps it blend into coral reefs and soft corals. One of its most fascinating traits is its ability to steal tiny stinging cells from the corals it eats and store them in its own body for defense. It also contains symbiotic algae within its tissues, allowing it to gain extra energy from sunlight in a process somewhat similar to photosynthesis. With its leaf-like body extensions and delicate appearance, Phyllodesmium briareum is considered one of the more unusual and beautiful sea slugs in the ocean ecosystem By

A very rarely seen black and yellow ribbon eel emerged from the reef and began free swimming through open water right in front of me. Most of the time these eels stay hidden deep inside holes with only their heads exposed, constantly opening and closing their mouths to breathe, so seeing one fully out in the open was an incredible moment. Watching its long ribbon-like body twist through the water almost looked more like a sea snake or dragon than an eel.

Ribbon eels actually change colour as they age. They usually begin life as black males with a bright yellow dorsal fin, and later many transform into blue females as they mature. They also have an amazing sense of smell and use their constantly flaring nostrils to track prey hiding in the reef. Even though they look intimidating up close, they are shy animals and rarely aggressive toward divers.

One of the strangest things about ribbon eels is how flexible they are. They can reverse back into tiny reef holes almost instantly if threatened, vanishing before you even realise they moved. Seeing one free swimming like this is something many divers never experience in their entire lives.

What looks like a floating feather is actually a living animal called a feather star. During the day, it hides curled up inside reefs and rocks, blending in so well that most people would never notice it. But at night, it opens up its arms and drifts through the current, using them like a living net to catch tiny plankton in the water.

What makes it even crazier is that if a predator grabs one of its arms, it can detach it to escape and grow it back later. Some feather stars can even swim by flapping their arms, almost like they’re flying underwater. One of the ocean’s strangest creatures looks delicate and peaceful, but it’s built to survive in some incredible ways.
