Children 6 and under are required to wear a lifejacket the entire time out on the water, so before kayaking be sure to introduce your child to wearing a lifejacket and the basics of kayaking to help avoid any extra fears for them. We have lifejackets of all sizes that will be provided, but if you own a coast guard approved lifevest for your child that they are used to - bringing that one for them can help them feel more confident and comfortable.

It's Kids Kayaking Day!!

Every first and last Sunday of each month you can get $15 off any kayak rental when you are bringing anyone 18 or under and use the promo code KIDSKAYAK - this can be done online at www.RiverAdventureTours.com or over the phone with us at (833)468-8687!

Kayaking is a great activity for kids or adults - offering adventure, seeing new things, wildlife, getting exercise, and confidence building.

For children under 50lbs, you can kayak with them in a single - and children bigger than 50lbs can ride in the front seat of a tandem kayak. Kids have to be 12 years or older to be on their own in a single kayak.

You can't say Homosassa without saying Home, and it definitely feels like it here! With so much fun to be had, it's a wonderful place to be.

The pictures are from a super fun trip I took with my family a year or two ago around the river, and a glimpse of the shenanigans that ensued when I found an old lawn chair that had been washed up in one of the shorelines for awhile 😂

Any time you see trash, or anything that doesn't belong in the water while kayaking, as long as it's safe to retrieve - always try to get it and dispose of it properly! We all play a part in keeping the river clean today, tomorrow, and for all of the tomorrows to come - even if it's not our trash. Hey, you might even score a new chair out of it!! This lawn chair got cleaned up and is still sitting in front of the River Adventure Tours office to this day 🤣

P.S On a real note, having something to sit on and using a kayak paddle is the best way to paddle board for a leisurely day in my opinion 🥳 You'll see many people bring a hard cooler if they'll be out for awhile so you can have food, drinks, and a chair!!

Wildlife Wednesday!

Florida is among the top 5 states for the amount of endemic species that can be found here, meaning plants and animals found nowhere else in the world! Over 4000 species are considered native to Florida, while around 369 species and 13 ecological communities are considered endemic.

Florida is also the number one hotspot of invasive species in the entire United States. Many types of reptiles and plants get brought over for pets or decorative purposes - reptiles escape, plants spread.

This plant - as beautiful as it is - is actually a harmful and invasive species of Lantana that strangles out our native plants. Like other invasive plants that Florida battles, it can grow wildly across different Florida landscapes - adding more fuel for wildfires, hybridizing with native species threatening genetic integrity, and this species is toxic! It grows easily in open pastures, and if consumed by livestock like horses or cattle it can cause severe poisoning or death.

While gardening in Florda, check out resources like the Florida Native Plant Society at www.fnps.org or go to https://gardeningsolutions.ifas.ufl.edu/plants/ornamentals/native-plants/ to look at a specific list of native plants that look great and are beneficial for your yard!

Improvement of our surroundings starts with us, and we all play a part in making Florida a great place to be! So get out there - smell some flowers (or rip them up if they don't belong here), pick up some trash, stop for that little critter crossing the road, and wave to your neighbor. It will be a more beautiful tomorrow ☀️❤️
