Handstands, Basic Soft Acrobatics/Floorwork, Strength Development and more! Coaching available both in-person in Honolulu or Online.

My active students already know this, but the metaphorical doors of JBT will be closing soon in Hawaii. Jenn (my wife) and I have made the tough decision to move to North Carolina to be closer to family. I'll be stopping all in-person coaching at the end of February.

I plan to make a more complete video later, but I wanted to compile some of my favorite memories throughout the years here running this group (it was very hard to choose only 30 pictures).

I would say this group hasn't just been a great part of my life for the past ~6 years - it has been my whole life. It's been an indescribable pleasure to be able to dedicate most of my time to working with you all. There really aren't words for it, but I think if you've been around for a while, I'd hope that you've felt it, too.
I want to thank everyone who has come and taken part in any of the classes, workshops, meetups, etc. But I especially want to thank those of you who have been with me for considerable amounts of time (some even basically the entire time!). Everything would've had to change a long time ago if you all didn't stick around as the foundation of the group to grow. I could go on, but I'll probably do a separate post in more detail later.

Special thanks to @hina_bina for being one of the first and for bringing in a lot of the other core members and for organizing so many things. You've been a real rock for the group over the years.

And special thank you to @sean.hansei . You've dedicated so much time, especially these past two years, to train, help run things in the background, and stepping in to help coach. (Please reach out to him if you're looking to train. He's currently figuring out what he can handle and trying to figure out how to shape things for those interested in continuing on. Please let him know so he can assess the situation).

And, of course, special thank you to @lou89laj for being there as we try to navigate life transitioning into running our own businesses.

For those interested in online coaching, that will be available, so please reach out if you're interested in learning more.

I'm sad to be leaving, but I'm looking forward to spending the last month together. 02/22/2025

I didn't update things on this page yet, but JBT will sadly be closing in Hawaii after this month!

I wrote a bit more about it on Instagram, that you can see here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DFjqf3Uu3ns/

Thank you for all of the support over the years!

5 Years of Handstand Group!

It's hard to believe we've been running this group for 5 years now. Thank you to everyone who is or has been a part of it.

It's been such a pleasure being able to work on handstands with everyone. We've been blessed with such an open group coming together. I love the chill-yet-serious, relaxed-but-striving atmosphere of our classes that, to me, feels conducive for handstand training in the long-term. 👊😎

Thanks for coming out and surprising me again!
I am always so grateful to you all who make time in your busy schedules to come work on something like handstands. It is a reminder to me every week that there is magic in the world. 🪄🎩✨️

First chin up!

Vanny has been working hard and pretty consistently since we started doing strength work in August (we only could find clips starting in October). We had done some chin up work in the past once per week when we'd hang rings up after handstands, but August was when we really turned up the heat.

Every Tuesday, we'd do a strength session that included chin up progressions, and then Friday would have lighter work on them, too. Vanny missed a decent amount of training around the holidays, but progress kept slowly happening.

We didn't test them out for quite some time, I had a goal of it happening this month. Sean and I said today would be the day, and we interrupted her session to just try one once she was warm. She didn't even hesitate and just went for it and knocked it out!

Congrats on your first one, Vanny! I know your goal is actually one pull-up, so we'll start working directly on that soon. We really appreciate your openness and dedication. Your training mindset is inspiring - it is a great balance between staying focused on the intent of the drill without getting lost in just getting the result. You're really a pleasure to train!

Jill has been maintaining her consistent handstand practice and the results are starting to show!
Thank you for trusting the process and doing the work!

I’m starting to find longer balances. This handstand journey is teaching me a lot about patience and practice. In earlier posts I talk about the journey being so much fun. I have to be honest, it’s not always fun. Sometimes I wish the progress would come faster. But it’s teaching me to trust the process every day. Also, to truly understand that patience doesn’t mean chilling out. Rather working hard and trusting.

Having an experienced, patient and encouraging coach there by my side, every step of the process has been invaluable. I’ve been with Coach John for two years. I can’t wait to see how much further we will go.✨✨✨✨✨✨

Side splits are really coming along!

Vanessa has been chipping away at her middle splits for a while now and the results are coming in. She started at a decent range already but it is very cool to see progress happening from mostly just 3 sets of middle split work per week. Not everyone's programming will be like this, but it's nice to see progress happening without having to dedicate too much time to it if we're patient and consistent!

Send us a message if you're interested in getting started on this journey!

Jill is progressing with her press handstand drills while we're still working to solidify consistent balance in strength. The sets are starting to come together where we can press up and then hold at the top some and then perform the eccentric!

Progression. From the box to the blocks. Pressing is so challenging, but so fun. I still have a ways to go, but I’m loving this journey.🥰Thank you Coach John for constantly challenging me and creating programs perfect for my progression. Such a fun journey!✨⭐️
