Restoring a 30-Year-Old Classic Surfboard
This beautiful 9'6" Malibu surfboard has quite a history. Originally handcrafted by Roger Hall in New Zealand, the board was built approximately 30 years ago and has seen decades of adventures both in and out of the water.

Over the years, the board was unfortunately left exposed to the sun for long periods, causing significant wear and deterioration. The prolonged UV exposure led to discoloration, weakened fiberglass, and extensive damage across the surface. Time had also taken its toll on the structure, leaving the board in need of serious restoration work.

To bring this classic Malibu back to life, I carefully removed the damaged material and sanded the wooden stringers flush with the board. This process required patience and precision to ensure the original shape and integrity of the board were preserved. Once the preparation work was completed, I reglassed both sides of the board, giving it a new protective fiberglass skin while maintaining its vintage character.

The restoration was about more than just repairs it was about preserving a piece of surfing history. After decades of aging and damage, this 9'6" Malibu now has a new lease on life. The board retains the craftsmanship and spirit of its original maker while being ready for many more years in the water.
What was once a weathered and damaged relic has been transformed into a beautifully restored classic, honoring the legacy of Roger Hall and the timeless design of traditional New Zealand surfboards. 🤙
