Jiu-Jitsu has always been bigger than sport.

PART 1: Before they knew at to do... 😃

This morning we had a fun time working a 2-on-1 control scenario. Two partners on top working together to safely ATTEMPT to pin and control one person on bottom, while the bottom person’s goal is to get back to their feet.

Control, pressure, communication, and technique.

We just wanted to take a moment to say mahalo to Coach from O2 Martial Arts Academy for coming in last night and covering our 4:30 and 5:30 kids classes, along with our 6:45 adult class.

It means a lot when someone from another academy takes time out of their own schedule to come in to help any Relson Team, and share their knowledge with our students. In this case, Coach Kyle. It says a lot about his character and the kind of person he is.

Walls coming down.
Space opening up.
Work being done behind the scenes.

We not saying too much… just know something new is coming to Team Papakōlea Jiu-Jitsu. 👀

We’ve been putting in the work, making changes, and building things out to make the space better for our students, our families, and our community.

Is it a renovation?
Is it an upgrade?
Is it something bigger?

It helps kids build confidence, awareness, discipline, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. It teaches them how to move, how to protect themselves, and how to believe in themselves by being tested on the mats consistently.

Because we’ve spent the last 20+ years teaching these kids, watching them grow, and seeing what Jiu-Jitsu can do beyond the podium.

For over 21 years, we’ve built a safe, positive place where kids can train, learn, laugh, grow, and just be kids.

Team Papakolea Jiu-Jitsu teamed up with for another workshop right here in Papakōlea Homestead, with the keiki of the very place we call home.

For us, this is bigger than the mats. It’s about sharing Jiu-Jitsu and the moral values that come with it: respect, discipline, humility, confidence, and responsibility. It’s about bringing health, well-being, and positive influence into the community.
