Aikido of Honolulu is located at the Todaiji Temple, located off the Pali Highway. Aikido is practiced with a partner, with the goal of mutual development.

Aikido can be translated as the “way of harmonizing energy,” but can also be interpreted as a “way to harmonize with the life force of the universe,” and is a martial art that meets contemporary needs. Originated by Morihei Ueshiba in Japan in 1925, Aikido is a path toward spiritual and physical cultivation. There are no competitive contests in Aikido, and the philosophy that governs the art focus

Important Notice for Aikido of Honolulu Members Dated Wednesday July 12, 2023

Practice is cancelled from Thursday July 13 thru Sunday July 16.

There will still be a Junior's and Adult's class held tonight, Wednesday July 12. There will be no classes on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Classes will resume Monday afternoon with the Junior's Class. Please come early if possible on Monday to aid with dojo setup!

The reason for cancellation is that Todaiji Hawaii Bekkaku Honzan will be conducting Obon Festivities this weekend.

Aloha Aikido of Honolulu members and supporters. We are pleased to announce our leadership's decision to reopen the dojo on a modified practice schedule Please see below for our reopening practice schedule and instructors and important practice rules and conditions.

Practice schedule and instructors(current 07/18/2021)

Sunday (Adults) 11 a.m. to noon Instructor: Senior yudansha attending and/or committee of yudansha attending
- Mat set up before practice from about 9:45 a.m.
Monday
- Juniors 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Instructors: Mike Nakashima and Stacie Shinsato
- Adults 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Instructor: Stacie Shinsato
Wednesday
- Juniors 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Instructor: Norman Kau
- Adults 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Instructor: Norman Kau
Thursday (Adults) 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Instructor: Craig Yamaguchi
Friday
- Juniors 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Instructors: Bev Nagaue, Ernie Oshiro, and Mark Hirokawa
- Adults 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Instructor: Peter McNally, Ernie Oshiro, and Mark Hirokawa

Rules and conditions for practice

1. All practice participants except children under age 12 must be fully vaccinated and provide a photo of their CDC vaccination card for Aikido of Honolulu's confidential records via email at [email protected] before being allowed to practice.
2. For juniors classes, all instructors and children age 12 and older must be fully vaccinated and provide a photo of their CDC vaccination card for Aikido of Honolulu's confidential records via email at [email protected] before being allowed to practice.
3. All participants are required to wear masks and to maintain a minimum of 6 feet of distance from their practice partner and other participants at all times during practice. No physical contact between participants is allowed during practice (for example, uke grabbing or striking nage).
4. Practice mats will be sanitized after every practice. On days when a juniors practice occurs just before an adult practice, the mats will be cleaned after the adult practice that evening. All participants attending are encouraged to help.
5. These rules and conditions are based on the current government (State and City) Orders and medical guidelines regarding COVID-19 and are subject to change at any time based on updates to these Orders and/or guidelines.
6. All practice participants (and parents or guardians for juniors members) understand and agree that Aikido of Honolulu has taken reasonable measures to protect against COVID-19 and waive any claims of liability against Aikido of Honolulu and its leadership related in any way to COVID-19.

Two students from Nippon Sport Science University visited us,and practiced on 02/07(Fri). Also 02/09(Sun),they demonstrated Aikido at Waipahu High School for their cultural exchange performances. 2月7日(金)日本体育大学より二名の生徒が合気道オブホノルルを訪れ、稽古、交流会をしました。また2月9日(日)ワイパフハイスクールでの伝統文化交流発表会にて合気道を披露しました。
