Thank you everyone who came to Paddle for the Platte: Protect the Waters we Love!

The Platte River is a vital part of Northwest Michigan’s environment. 193 square miles of land drain into this river, meaning its health depends on good stewardship happening across that whole region.

At our August 28 event with Riverside Canoe Trips, paddlers not only learned about the plants and animals that call this water home but also what they can do to support healthy water.

Riverside Canoes generously donated 50% of participants’ kayak and canoe rental proceeds to us, plus gave an additional donation, raising $1,200 for our water quality programs!

We owe a huge thanks to Riverside Canoes, and to others who partnered on this program, including the DNR to teach about their salmon program in the Platte River, Lake Township for tabling space, and volunteers of Friends of the Benzie Conservation District.

And of course, thank YOU for coming out to protect the water you love. We’re in this together.

In the morning of August 28, we’re partnering with Riverside Canoes to showcase our amazing waters through info stations along the river.

After launching from their livery, stop by the DNR Weir to learn all about the plants and critters that call the water home, and visit our booth at the river’s mouth to learn how you can protect our lakes, rivers, and wildlife on your own.
