The Rotary Club of Hoover

Dads from all around Hoover (including a Rotarian or two) descended on Bluff Park Elementary School and other Hoover City Schools. Volunteers from Hoover City Dad Brigade helped out with pressure washing, yard work, furniture builds, hanging pictures, and touching up some paint to prove that many hands make light work.

It doesn't take a lengthy or expensive effort to make a big difference, so here's a challenge to our Hoover friends: what's one thing you can do for a couple of hours per month to make a difference in your community?

This year we continued our long tradition of providing 1,015 third-graders throughout Hoover's private and public schools with student dictionaries - a fundamental building block to literacy as part of Hoover Rotary's core mission of youth and educational programs. We started April with a visit from TechBirmingham President and CEO Deon Gordon, who shared his story, the story of Birmingham's business growth culture, and the road ahead for tech-interested youth. Rotaractor Jarrod Stisher, also of TechBirmingham, shared a first-hand perspective of tech education in Birmingham schools. We look forward to an innovative partnership that helps keep tech literacy at the fore throughout Alabama.
