A recap of a stunning final!

After a tough first half in league stage which meant CCC had to beat Smashers and Cougars just to sneak into the playoffs as a wild card seed and then had to go through Strikers and HICC I in the first two rounds, it only made sense for our final to go down to the wire against a quality opponent in Smashers looking to avenge their loss and just as hungry as us to lift the cup.

Smashers were restricted to just 107, thanks to Maneshโ€™s 3-13, Enoshโ€™s 3-22, and Sridharโ€™s 2-17. However, thanks to great opening spells from Ali Bangash and Adityaa, Smashers were right in the game getting us 12/3. Thought Sridhar played a great cameo, Smashers soon had CCC 58-5 with the run rate rising. However, Girish and Enosh took the game deep and just as it seemed as it was getting out of hand with 29 required off 15 balls, Enosh got two boundaries through square leg and then Girish hit two sixes in the next over to seal the deal and take home Man of the Match for his clutch 41*.

Itโ€™s been a complete team effort throughout the season from Tittu and Raj leading from the front with the bat and giving solid opening stands, experienced campaigners like Girish and Manesh stepping up in the final, Akhi and Sridhar setting the tone with the new ball, youngsters in Wasie, Tejas, Shray, and Usayd contributing in multiple departments, allrounders in Enosh, Bibin, Siddhesh, Nikhil, Manesh, Phani, and Sridhar firing consistently, and the entire Cavaliers club for continuously supporting the team.

A special mention to Reds who qualified all the way to the semifinals thanks to great leadership by Anand V, Krishna, and Sreejayan along with stellar performances from Nilesh, Bibin, Jithin, Pranav, Akshay, Vishal, Kaushal, Pranay, Vyas, Aarin, Rohit Sharma, Rohit Thakur, Karthik, and Dinoy!

Itโ€™s been a tough time for the entire world and we are thankful Houston Cricket League - HCL was able to conduct this tournament. A special shoutout to our sponsor, RVS Insurance Group, LLC. A memorable tournament for us as we lift a cup after 15 years.

Onto the F40 season!

After having lost a heartbreaker in the league stage, CCC started strong with a 50+ run opening stand between Raj and Tittu. Although Strikers fought back with spin, the skipper Sridhar and Nikhil put on 30+ for the fourth wicket to consolidate things. A few cameos by the lower order propelled Blues to 166.

Blues started a bit sloppy in the field but came back and had both of the Strikers dugout inside the powerplay. With the game evenly poised, Tejas broke the game open with accurate fast bowling hauling 3 wickets in 4 balls at one stage. He finished with a five wicket haul and was awarded Man of the Match.

GACC started strong with 40+ runs for no loss in 5 overs but Reds bounced back applying pressure through spin and picking up regular wickets. With everyone doing their job, Reds were able to restrict them to 150.

In the chase, Anand V, Bibin, and Akshay laid the foundation. With 48 runs needed in 6 overs, a tense finish was on the cards and thanks to an unbeaten partnership between Jithin and Dinoy, filled with great running and clean striking, Reds squeaked by in a last ball finish.

HICC started on top getting a wicket on the first ball but Tittu and Wasie got things under control while playing some extraordinary shots, most notably Wasie's straight six in the first over. Although Wasie fell for 26, the skipper, Sridhar, kept the momentum going while Tittu anchored from the other end. At 129-3 in the middle of the 16th over, CCC looked set for a big total. However, a collapse followed and although Tittu was 64*, Blues failed to play out their overs and managed only 148.

But Blues came out in the field and thanks to some unplayable bowling by Sridhar and Akhi and incredible intensity in the field by everyone, HICC was 21-3 at the end of the powerplay. Although HICC tried to consolidate, Enosh picked up 2-19 in his 4, took 2 outstanding catches, and was part of a fabulous run out while from the other end, Usayd took 4-17 to wrap up the tail and bundle out HICC for 89.

After a nailbiter the day before, Reds took another game to the last ball. It all started pretty slow with Nilesh, Anand V, and Sreejayan setting up the platform to have Reds 70/1 in 12 overs. Sreejayan then hit 3 consecutive boundaries and then Bibin played an incredible knock of 33 in just 15 balls. Thanks to some small cameos by Dinoy, Pranav, and Aarin, CCC finished with 161.

With the ball, CCC didnโ€™t start that well as their top 3 started strong and were 86-1 at the end of 11 overs. But once again, spin came into play and a fabulous spell by the young legspinner, Pranay, who finished with 2-25 in his 4 overs, and Pranav who finished with 1-25 in his 4, put the squeeze on TCC. With 42 needed in 4 overs, it was evenly poised.

The next 2 overs went for 20 and with Sree Pare for TCC looking unstoppable, it looked like Reds were going to fall short. But Bibin delivered an excellent penultimate over picking up a wicket and only going for 6 runs. With 17 to defend and the experienced Sreejayan bowling, Reds seemed to have this in the bag only for Sree Pare to hit a 6 and a 4 in 2 balls, both over the covers to bring the equation to 6 from 3. However, Sreejayan bowled a good ball to get Sree Pare off strike and although they were able to get him back on strike for the last ball, Sreejayan held his nerve and limited him to just one to pull off a dramatic victory.
