Tennessee requires annual fi***rm safety instruction for all public and charter school students from kindergarten through 12th grade under Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-1016. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1FD3GnrmEW/

Tennessee is now teaching fi***rm safety in public schools statewide. 🎒

The state became the first in the U.S. to require fi***rm-safety instruction for public-school students after passing the law in 2024. The requirement began with the 2025–2026 school year.

The lessons are designed to teach students what to do if they ever encounter a fi***rm, including basic safety rules, safe-storage awareness, and how to respond responsibly in a dangerous situation.

The instruction is age-appropriate and continues as students move through different grade levels.

Tennessee was the first to adopt the statewide requirement, but it is no longer alone. Arkansas and Utah have since passed similar fi***rm-safety education laws.

Should gun safety be taught in every public school in America?

New guidance for LTC-104 Submission

DPS has confirmed how the LTC-104 is now handled:

If you report the student's training through RSD Connect, the student will not be asked to upload an LTC-104 for that training.
If you do not report the training through RSD Connect, the student will be prompted to upload the LTC-104 during the application.
The old LTC-104 document upload links are no longer used.
The LTC-104 upload now appears directly inside the application under the applicable Proof of Course Passage or Proof of Range & Proficiency Passage section. Thank you, Joel Kuchenski, for the information.
