Robert De Niro was born on August 1943, in New York City, into an artistic family. He began his career in the 1960s and rose to prominence with roles in Bang the Drum Slowly (1973), Mean Streets (1973), and especially The Godfather Part II (1974), which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He continued to impress with Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980 – Best Actor Oscar), Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, The Irishman (2019), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023). Beyond acting, he co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival, the global Nobu restaurant chain, and is a vocal advocate for social justice, arts education, and climate action. With over 60 years of dedication, De Niro stands as a living icon of cinematic excellence and civic responsibility.

SHARKEY The Famous Bucking Bull, 1913. This was one great capture. The photographer was in the arena with his bulky camera. Timing was everything. It took several seconds to load a plate camera with an individual sheet of film...so the photographer nailed it with one shot.

This real photo postcard (RPPC) was published by George Foster of Miles City (MT), but the photo was by Ralph R. Doubleday. Doubleday traveled the rodeo circuit for 40 years. A photo of Doubleday and his bulky camera is in a comment on my page. Doubleday sold an estimated 30 million postcards. Text and Photoshop restoration of image by Gary Coffrin.

Beyond the stage, Taboo’s 2016 anthem “Stand Up / Stand N Rock” earned a Native American Music Award for its solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. As an ambassador for health, education, and indigenous rights, he mentors youth and champions cultural preservation—continuing to inspire a new generation of artists.

Chief Dan George (born Geswanouth Slahoot, July 24, 1899 – Tsleil-Waututh Nation, Canada) was a remarkable actor, poet, writer, and spiritual leader of Indigenous heritage.
He rose to fame with his unforgettable role as Old Lodge Skins in Little Big Man (1970), earning him an Oscar nomination – the first ever for an Indigenous Canadian actor.
Beyond the screen, he was a powerful voice for Indigenous rights, tirelessly advocating for cultural preservation, environmental protection, and social justice.
Through his poetry, books, speeches, and community work, he inspired pride, unity, and cultural awareness, empowering future generations of Indigenous youth.

𝗤: 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗞𝗘𝗡𝗡𝗘𝗗𝗬 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗮?

A: Yes, it happened on August 27, 1960, at the Eastern Montana Fair rodeo (not the Bucking Horse Sale). Ted Kennedy, age 28, was campaigning for his brother John during the presidential race. After Kennedy was diagnosed with fatal brain cancer, he wrote Montanan Joe Reber for Joe’s 90th birthday. Said Kennedy: "I'm just glad I survived that rodeo ride in Miles City."

In 2008, 48 years after the ride, Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer had a dinner with Kennedy and others. Kennedy fetched a framed picture and told of his visit to Miles City. Schweitzer later commented, with some hyperbole: "How many Montanans who have ridden (horses) their whole life would, with a couple thousand people in the stands, jump up and say, 'I'll ride that bronc?' That's one tough man."

How did Kennedy do? The Associated Press reported five seconds. One report stated three bucks. Ted Kennedy was campaigning, and he would have done almost anything to help his brother, 15 years his senior. Kennedy borrowed boots, chaps, and spurs at the fairgrounds. The next day while in significant pain, Kennedy rode to Billings in Joe Reber’s single-engine plane. Montanan Joe Reber and Kennedy maintained a life-long connection.

Miles City Star photographer George Larson took the photo of a lifetime. The image was published nationwide. I normally post restored photographs of the Old West, but I was captivated by the photo and tale of bravado in my hometown. -Gary Coffrin
