If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn. ~Ignacio Estrada

Good morning everyone and Happy 2020!

Just wanted to update you all that beginning in February, I will be returning to the place where tennis started for me both as player in 1986 and as a coach in 1993. The place is MacGregor Park (Homer Ford Tennis Center) and the non-profit tennis program is the Zina Garrison Tennis Academy. Apparently for me, life has come full circle and I couldn’t be happier.
For more information about the tennis program, please visit the website at www.zinagarrison.org
I really hope to continue being a part of your child’s development in tennis but understand if scheduling and/or distance may be an issue. I thank you for supporting and trusting me with your children throughout these past years.
See you soon,

Coach Eddie

***FINAL UPDATE***
Good afternoon everyone! Just wanted to inform you all that after 6 years, 4 months and 14 days, Eddie's Tennis Academy will be coming to an end and our official last day of tennis class will be August 2, 2018. After careful consideration, I have accepted a tennis teaching position at Bay Oaks Country Club located at 14545 Bay Oaks Blvd. Houston, TX 77059 (6 miles from San Jacinto College). On behalf of my family, I would like to thank everyone who has ever participated in our tennis program including coaches Juan Mauricio Amaya, Jenna Pyland, Manuela Gomez-Rhodes and Andres Padilla (I hope I didn’t forget anyone). Please know that your continued participation has allowed me to do the following:
1. Achieve a dream of mine of starting a tennis academy
2. Spend more quality time with my family, particularly my sons who needed extra help with school work at that time (my wife - not so much , )
3. Continue to pursue my calling and passion, which is working with children through tennis.

It has been an awesome, fun run the past 6 years but the ride is not over by any means. I have met someone (Diego Casco - Director of Tennis at Bay Oaks) who shares similar interests in building a fun, positive and challenging junior tennis program along with adult leagues, mixers, fun tournaments, etc. Also, the tennis facility at Bay Oaks Country Club has (9) well-maintained hard courts (with lights). Parents - you will no longer have to watch from the parking lot or camp out just outside the tennis court to view your children play (you know who you are!).
Aside from the facility being far better than what we have had the past 6 years, here are 3 other things to consider for all current and former students interested and available to continue taking tennis lessons with me and Diego at Bay Oaks Country Club:
1. Free Kids Hit For Prizes event on August 12 (see attached)
2. I will be there, I will be there and I will be there (all 3 of my personalities)

If you'd like to register or have any further questions regarding club membership and/or tennis programming, please contact Diego Casco at [email protected] and let him know that you are a student of mine.

Lastly, I really hope to continue providing lessons to your children in the future but I also understand if you are unable to do so because of scheduling, distance or any other reason that may apply. I truly enjoyed working with all of your children: the young ones and the older ones, the funny ones and the serious ones, the outspoken ones and the more reserved ones. For several years now, they have provided me a "constant breath of fresh air" that I have often needed in a sometimes polluted atmosphere. I thank them for that and I thank you for bringing them.
See you soon,

Coach Eddie

Copied from 4 years ago but it still applies today...

Happy Birthday to the person who is directly responsible for me getting started in tennis. He was the 1st person ever to put a tennis racquet in my hand. We literally tied a string from the fence to a tree (representing the net, of course) in our yard and played until it got dark. We watched all the grand slams together - he cheered for Chris Evert while I pulled for Martina Navratilova to win, naturally. We walked to Ingrando Park (community tennis courts with a "fence net") and played until "I" got tired because that's what big brothers do for their little brothers. On the way back home, he bought me a 32 oz lemon-lime Gatorade in a glass bottle - (the only flavor they had back then) the kind that had the metal cap that would "pop" when you twisted it open. I can honestly say that I would not be who I am today if it were not for his influence. Thank you Lawrence for being the influence back then and continuing it today with my sons - I can never reciprocate what you have given to me...
