Just before the three-hour mark of the 12-hour race, at 1:05 p.m., the Risi Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO, with Pier Guidi at the wheel, was attempting a pass in Turn 17 of the 3.74-mile Sebring International Raceway. Both he and the No. 65 Ford Mustang he was challenging spun in the corner. Unfortunately, while the Risi Ferrari was still stopped on track, it was struck by another competitor.

The impact damaged the subframe, forcing the Risi Competizione team to retire the car.
