Not all modern dance looks the same — and Horton is proof. Powerful. Geometric. Defiant. It is one of the most physically demanding techniques in the art form, and it has been building elite, versatile dancers for generations.

Lester Horton was a pioneering American choreographer who developed this foundational modern technique in the mid-20th century. While some styles emphasize loose, abstract movement, Horton is celebrated for its anatomical precision, sharp lines, and explosive athletic power.

What Makes It Unique?
Flat Backs and Lateral Ts: Dancers train to maintain an incredibly strong, stabilized core, mastering precise linear shapes and gravity-defying tilts.

Full-Body Fortifications: The technique features signature warm-up exercises designed to stretch, strengthen, and correct posture, preparing the body for any style of dance.

Dynamic Versatility: The style emphasizes spatial awareness, rhythmic complexity, and an impressive range of motion that transitions seamlessly from fluid control to percussive energy.

It is a technique that demands extreme physical stamina while projecting fierce, grounded confidence — and that power is exactly what makes it so compelling to watch.

Experience this revolutionary technique firsthand. Join us as we dive into Horton during Week 2 of our Classical Mastery Workshop — DM us today to reserve your spot!

Not all ballet looks the same — and Bournonville is proof. Weightless. Fast. Joyful. It is one of the most distinctive techniques in the art form, and it has been shaping dancers for nearly two centuries.

August Bournonville was the legendary ballet master of the Royal Danish Ballet in the 19th century. While some styles emphasize grand dramatic lines and high extensions, Bournonville is celebrated for its joyful musicality, intricate fluid movement, and effortless grace.

What Makes It Unique?

Buoyant Jump Work: Dancers are trained to look weightless, mastering rapid, bouncy jumps without showing the physical effort of taking off or landing.

Intricate Footwork: The style emphasizes quick, precise foot actions that perfectly weave together with the music.

Natural Grace: The arms are often held in a low, framing position, creating an organic, elegant silhouette that looks completely natural.

It is a technique that demands extreme physical strength while projecting pure, joyful ease — and that tension is exactly what makes it so compelling to watch.

Experience this historic technique firsthand. Join us for the remaining sessions of our Classical Mastery Workshop Week 1 — DM us today to reserve your spot!

As we head into the beautiful, warm summer months, it is the perfect time to give our pointe shoes a little extra care and attention. Summer humidity can take a quick toll on the glue and structure of your shoes, but a few simple habits will keep them supportive, safe, and ready for class.

Here are a few quick tips to help your pointe shoes last all summer long:

Keep Them Dry
Always take your shoes out of your dance bag as soon as you get home. Letting them air-dry completely between classes prevents the box from softening too quickly in the summer heat.

Use Mesh Bags
If you need to carry them, a breathable mesh bag is a wonderful way to protect your shoes while allowing air to circulate.

Rotate Your Pairs
If you are dancing in a summer intensive or taking multiple classes a week, try alternating between two pairs of shoes. Giving each pair a full 24 to 48 hours to dry completely will greatly extend their lifespan.

Taking care of your instruments is such a beautiful part of a dancer's discipline, and a little extra maintenance goes a long way in keeping you dancing safely.

Interested in additional summer training? We have a few spots left for our remaining weeks of our Summer Intensive and Classical Mastery Workshop. DM us for more information!
