Today is Rare Disease Day. At any given time, more than 250,000 people are living with sarcoma. This community is vast, yet “rare” still too often means delayed diagnosis, limited treatment options, and too little research funding.
●Sarcoma - A general term for cancers that start in connective tissues.
These tissues include:
Bone
Muscle
Fat
Blood vessels
Nerves
Cartilage
***There are 70+ different types of sarcomas.
Examples include:
-Osteosarcoma (bone)
-Liposarcoma (fat)
-Angiosarcoma (blood vessels)
So sarcoma = the umbrella group.
●Angiosarcoma
A rare and aggressive type of sarcoma.
It starts in the cells that line blood vessels or lymph vessels.
Common places it can appear:
Skin (often scalp or face)
Breast
Liver
Heart
Deep tissue
Key features;
Can grow and spread quickly
Often appears as bruised-looking or purple skin patches
May bleed easily because it involves blood vessels

❄️ ARCTIC FREEZE ARRIVES FRIDAY ❄️
A significant winter storm is increasingly likely to impact large portions of Texas this weekend. All winterization and cold-weather preparations should be completed by Thursday afternoon.
A classic arctic cold front will move across the state on Friday, bringing a sharp temperature drop and a rapid push of freezing air southward.
🔹 The cold front is expected to reach Southeast Texas Friday evening (January 23)
🔹 Temperatures will fall rapidly Friday night into Saturday morning
🔹 Cold air continues pushing south Saturday, with temperatures slowly falling throughout the day
🔹 The freezing line may reach the I-10 corridor by Saturday evening
❄️ HARD FREEZE THREAT
Sunday morning: Areas north of I-10
Monday morning: A larger portion of Southeast Texas, including the Houston metro
Wind chills: Likely in the 10s and 20s Saturday night into Sunday across much of the Houston area
🌨️ WINTER STORM IMPACTS A significant winter storm is expected late Friday through Sunday, with the potential for:
Ice accumulations
Snow accumulations
Extremely hazardous travel conditions
🚗 TRAVEL WARNING Travel from Friday evening through much of the weekend could become extremely dangerous due to winter precipitation and brutal cold.
Staying off roadways is strongly recommended.
🛠️ PREPARATIONS ✔️ Winterize and protect exposed pipes and plumbing
✔️ Shut off and drain sprinkler systems
✔️ Provide proper shelter for pets and livestock
✔️ Protect tropical plants and vegetation
⚠️ Unprotected tropical vegetation will likely be killed; even protected plants may suffer damage
✔️ Limit outdoor exposure
✔️ Use heating sources safely to avoid fire and carbon monoxide risks
