Today is Rare Disease Day. At any given time, more than 250,000 people are living with sarcoma. This community is vast, yet “rare” still too often means delayed diagnosis, limited treatment options, and too little research funding.

●Sarcoma - A general term for cancers that start in connective tissues.
These tissues include:
Bone
Muscle
Fat
Blood vessels
Nerves
Cartilage
***There are 70+ different types of sarcomas.
Examples include:
-Osteosarcoma (bone)
-Liposarcoma (fat)
-Angiosarcoma (blood vessels)
So sarcoma = the umbrella group.

●Angiosarcoma
A rare and aggressive type of sarcoma.
It starts in the cells that line blood vessels or lymph vessels.
Common places it can appear:
Skin (often scalp or face)
Breast
Liver
Heart
Deep tissue

Key features;
Can grow and spread quickly
Often appears as bruised-looking or purple skin patches
May bleed easily because it involves blood vessels
