Greezed Lightnin'⚡️
Roller Coaster Astroworld Greezed Lightnin' was a steel launched shuttle roller coaster at Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas, operating from 1978 until the park's closure on October 30, 2005. It was the park's first roller coaster to feature a vertical loop and was known for its flywheel launch system that propelled the train from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds. After the park closed, the ride was dismantled and sold, but never reassembled at another park due to various issues, and was eventually scrapped, though some parts were preserved.
Key Aspects of the Ride:
Ride Experience:
The train was launched forward into an 80-foot vertical loop, then went up a 138-foot vertical spike before falling backward through the loop and station to another spike, and finally slowing down to return to the station.
Specifications:
Max Speed: 60 mph
Height: 138 feet
Length: 849 feet
Duration: 33 seconds
Manufacturer: Anton Schwarzkopf
Post-Closure History:
After AstroWorld closed, the ride was acquired by Joyland Amusement Park and later Cliff's Amusement Park, but unstable ground and installation costs prevented its reconstruction. The train was eventually sold to Frontier City for use on another coaster, and the rest of the ride was scrapped by late 2018.
