After running a handful of tracks for non lethal hit deer it’s nice to put one on the tailgate. Mack worked his butt off for this one but got it done.

With a slower than normal start to the 2024 tracking season Mack and I are happy to put this one on the board.
I want to give this hunter credit, once they figured out the shot was less than ideal based on how the arrow looked and unsure of shot placement they back out immediately and left the deer alone. We were able to recover this deer In the first bed 80+ yards from the shot site. This was a gut/liver and clipped the back of one lung.
I can’t express enough how important it is to not push these deer especially gut shot they need that 12-18hr time frame to expire and it will almost always end up in a recovery.

We will be tracking for free/tips during the youth/liberty hunt. We hope everyone has a successful year in the deer woods.

Another confirmation of life on a deer we tracked during archery season until a neighbor took him first week of gun season. Unfortunately this is the only picture I have of the deer but the hunter reached out and wanted to let us know what we thought was true on it being a low brisket shot. We always appreciate hunters reaching out and letting us know if deer we tracked show back up on camera or if they get harvested where the shot placement was.

Well these are always bitter sweet but we got word last week from one of our hunters we tracked for in mid October that the buck we tracked for him finally showed back up on camera and what we suspected was true a high shoulder hit. You can see a dark grey spot right at the top of the shoulder blade. These are always a tough one to track and a low percentage recovery. They usually bleed a ton for the first 200 yards and then start to clot up and from my experience they usually don’t bed until the 800-900 yard mark if they bed at all.

We were able to recover one after work today right before the snow really set in.
This was a liver/gut that that I got a call for last night I recommended we give it till I could get out of work which put it right around the 18-20hr mark and it turned out to be the right choice this deer wasn’t dead long before we got to him.
I also couldn’t be more proud of Mack this was our toughest recovery so far, this deer was basically in a pond/standing water the whole time it took some serious team work between Mack and I to sort things out. Once we finally hit the grass we started making some serious head way and one creek crossing later and after a total distance of 300 yards we recovered this buck.
Mack only keeps surprising me and getting better we are looking forward to what the rest of the season brings.
