Throwback to and his red tinted 5’5” Balsa Openface build Virgo. He ended up getting two because the first one was pinched a little too much in the rails. He ripped on it at Restaurants and footage of it ended up in the extra section of Volcoms movie BS! made by the talented

Custom 6’2 x 20 x 2 3/8 convertible in wood/cork build (no glass) — I’ve been developing and enjoying this construction for about 5 years now and have really been impressed with the durability and performance. Lively feel under foot and no worries about banging it into something and getting a rail shatter. I went down this path thinking about how to engineer strength and flex into the blank without the need for a shell of brittle glass. The deck panel and bottom ring of wood work together (deck in compression and bottom under tension) and act as a kind of stringer. The wood deck also helps with pressure dings. The blank is closed cell XPS foam so water logging isn’t an issue too. They’re pretty enjoyable to build with no glass job to sand as well! This one got a full kit of birch ply fins to go with it so you can set it up as a clustered bonzer, 2 +1, wierdomaker, twin, or twinzer. The Swiss Army knife of surfboards! 🙌 🙌

9’ custom ready for a bionic epoxy glass job/ multiple laminations put the strength in the rails and give the board a ride that doesn’t have that epoxy ‘chatter’ feel. It’s more work but you end up with a board that has epoxy strength but poly ride.
