Our Kung Fu brother, SiFu Andy Yang is opening up his new Wing Chun school at the beginning of October in Ridgefield, New Jersey. He has a unique perspective when it comes to Wing Chun and has good fighting experiences to share. If you're up in Northern New Jersey, please go visit and check out his school. Let's wish him the best of luck.

My SiHing, Simeon came to visit, so I put him to work sticking hands with little Michael. He was impressed with the little guy. There's always something to learn.
This is Wing Chun. Chi Sao. P**n Sao.

In the first video, I discussed the concept of “coverage” using a simple downward Pak Sao. Some people questioned its legitimacy and effectiveness in Wing Chun.

In the second video I addressed that by combining the Pak Sao with a strike to demonstrate how the concept can be applied through Pak Da. I also spoke about how the covering hand and strike have to be done simulatenously. Although I used an inside Pak Da simply as an example of coverage, some then argued that I shouldn’t play the inside because it leaves me open to being struck by the opponent’s other hand. Someone else suggested that the downward Pak should stop at the breastbone—or I would be exposing myself to a counter.

Sooo… in this final segment, I’ll demonstrate how to cover the open side once it has been exposed.
I’m still using the inside Pak Da for this example, but keep in mind that Wing Chun offers a multitude of hands that can be used to cover our open gates. Each Wing Chun hand provides its own unique form of coverage and may not cover the same way as a downward Pak Sao.
The comments mentioned throughout this series came from Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
This is Wing Chun. We cover. Pak Da.

This is one I keep hearing.
If I turn while facing my opponent, have I lost my centerline?

I explained in our previous video clip of how we "cover" using the downwards Pak Sao. The Pak Sao sweeps down to "cover" the entire area of attack rather than go directly to the attacking arm. Meaning that regardless of whether the punch is to the face, neck, chest, ribcage, etc. The Pak Sao remains the same keeping the same stroke from starting point to finish "covering" the entire upper gate area.
Some people have even debated the legitimacy of the downwards Pak Sao with me. So in this clip, I demonstrate how it is used on the inside. So this one is called Inside Pak Da. I know what some of you are going to say already about playing the inside. I'm prepared to "cover" that as well.
*This is not a fighting demo or a defense against a boxers jab, a takedown from a grappler, a Muay Thai roundhouse kick, or anything else. Let's stay on topic. Thank you.
This is Wing Chun. Pak Da. We cover.

Since we are on the topic of Wing Chun coverage. This is an example and explanation of Wing Chun's dynamic/active coverage, using a downward Pak Sao to demonstrate how the concept works. This is just a short clip from a demo that was made a while ago.
The term Dynamic/Active coverage is my personal verbiage on "moving" coverage.

This is Wing Chun. Coverage.

And this is just one of the many good reasons why we wear shin guards during training. To protect you from getting a shin kick like this during training. Good idea!

Big question.
What is "Coverage"
in Wing Chun?
