Justin Lyons and I ran heat 1 on Friday where carnage ensued. Off the start, we knew something was up. Green dropped and she went right to limp mode. Straight to the pits where Off Track Motorsports helped us sort out the issue, cross over tube had a loose clamp and a big air pocket. By this time the field had lapped us 3 or 4 times. We strapped back in and were finally able to GO! We found a couple rigs and just started going for broke...and we did. We got loose in some turns and then lost the front on beaver kill hill. We finished that lap and went to pits, to find a puking front driver hub and the rear passenger bump nearly tore off. 😳. I found my spare shafts and made the call, we'll fix it after we get to finals! So we ripped the rest of the bump off and kept rolling in 3wd! We managed to pass a couple rigs and put in enough laps to make the finals! Beaver kill hill was sure fun with 3wd 🤣.
After the end of heat 1, we immediately tore in to find the damage and start repairs. Things snowballed a bit but with the help of Eddy Oliver FullStack Motorsports and the rest of the group we managed to get the entire front rebuilt and welded the bump back on. We finished about 10pm 🙏
Finals, well, we found a nice crack just before the start so here we go again. Welded it up real quick and off to the start! Not missing this one! Green, here we go! Found ourselves in 2nd going into turn 1! Following Thorco Racing - 4803 back down the field and into the woods, we kept pressure on. Once we made it to the short course we knew the plan, and it worked. A quick inside line dumped us right where we wanted, 1st and onto the upper set of jumps on the short course. After a few laps with company, things settled down and we had a 3min lead 🤔. We settled into a trail run pace and knew the rig had to survive the 1.5hr race. Once we saw Jay Sadler coming into the short course as we were heading back to the woods we knew it was time to go again! Few more laps in, we hear they toasted the trans and were out. We had a comfortable lead and that was that! 1st place! Congrats Stainless Brain Racing Rob Boardway on keeping it together for #2!
So excited to get this thing to Montana for some redemption from last year! Time to wrench & weld!
