🌟 COACH SPOTLIGHT - AUSTIN WRIGHT 🌟
6U/8U Head Coach • 10U Assistant Coach

When Austin Wright thinks about growing up in IFYHA, he remembers walking into the rink at four years old with his brother, not knowing hockey would become a lifelong part of who he is.

Austin’s dad had never played hockey, but when he saw how much his sons loved it, he learned the game, became a certified coach and coached them for nearly a decade.

Looking back, Austin realizes his dad taught them much more than hockey. He showed them what it means to commit, support your kids and give your time to something you believe in.

Austin played through high school, then skated with the practice squad and played pickup games at Weber State University. After college, he returned to Idaho Falls, joined the men’s league and found himself back in the hockey community he loved.

Then he experienced hockey in a new way: as a dad.

Austin and his wife, Erin, now have four young hockey players. Fitz started skating at two, Henry and Sophia at three, and their youngest, George, will take the ice at two this year. What Austin loved growing up is now something his entire family shares. When Fitz began playing, Austin began coaching.

He has coached 4U, 6U and 8U and is now our 6U/8U Head Coach and 10U Assistant Coach. He loves watching a child arrive nervous and unsure—sometimes barely able to stand on the ice—and seeing what follows.

They learn to skate. Make friends. Encourage teammates. Gain confidence. Eventually, the rink becomes their second home. Austin knows that feeling himself.

“Growing up, the rink was always a place where I felt safe. It was a place where I belonged. It was where I made some of my best memories and some of my closest friendships.”

At IFYHA, we know the impact a great coach can have on a child, and we’re proud to have coaches who invest their heart into our players.

Austin’s dad learned the game to give that experience to his children. Now Austin gets to give it to his own kids—and to yours. That’s a pretty special legacy to carry forward. 🖤💛

🏒 We’re excited to announce our 2026–27 Idaho Falls Youth Hockey Tournament lineup!

One of the things we’re most proud of is being able to host a home tournament for every age division in our association—and in some cases, two! Home tournaments give our players the opportunity to compete against teams from across the region while creating lasting memories in front of family, friends, and our incredible hockey community. 🖤💛

We’re also excited to welcome teams from other associations to Idaho Falls! IFYHA works hard to provide a fun, competitive tournament experience with a 4-game guarantee and great hockey all weekend long!

Team registration is now open, but spots are limited and many divisions fill quickly. Register early to reserve your place!
