Long before many of us walked into race shops, garages, boardrooms and other spaces where women had historically been told they didn’t belong, Gloria Steinem was challenging the assumptions about what women could do and where they could lead.

Today, women are making their mark throughout motorsports — as drivers, engineers, crew members, executives, team owners and so much more.

We know we stand on the shoulders of women who helped open doors for generations to follow.

Gloria Steinem was one of those women.

From all of us at Women In Motorsports North America, we honor her life, her voice and her legacy.

We love stories like this — especially when we get to say, “It all started at Women with Drive!”

Joyce Ruffell, a researcher at OpenAI and a race fan, attended Women with Drive – Driven by Mobil 1 and signed up for our Monday shop tour. One of the stops that day was Chip Ganassi Racing.

She toured the shop, met members of the CGR team and started a conversation.

And look where that conversation led.

Today, OpenAI is in its second season partnering with Chip Ganassi Racing, and the relationship has grown to include primary sponsorship of Alex Palou’s No. 10 Honda and work with the team to explore how AI can help in the never-ending pursuit of speed and performance.

This is the kind of story that makes us smile, because this is exactly what WIMNA and Women with Drive are all about.

We can put together the panels, the networking opportunities, the shop tours and the events — but then it's up to the people in the room to make the connections and see where they lead.

Like so many around the world, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Dolly Parton — an American legend, icon and true original.

Dolly was actually part of our very first Women with Drive Summit… well, sort of. ❤️

A beautiful painting of Dolly by Nashville artist ERIK SKOLDBERG was displayed prominently in our Summit room. It seemed fitting to have her watching over us. Her extraordinary talent, determination, generosity and ability to remain unapologetically herself served as a reminder of what is possible when you believe in who you are — and use your success to lift others along the way.

And Dolly’s spirit didn’t stop there. At our country-themed Opening Reception, WIMNA Executive Director Cindy Sisson proudly sported her “Dolly for President” shirt — something that feels even more special to us today.

Dolly broke barriers, built businesses, gave generously, dreamed big and brought people together. She showed generations of women that you could be smart, ambitious, kind, successful, glamorous, funny — and completely yourself.

We may have only had Dolly at our Summit in spirit, but we were proud to have her there.
Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, the example and the enormous heart. Your light will continue to shine. 🤍

Rest well, Dolly. You made the world a better — and much more colorful — place.
