Meet Karthik, the 2024 Monster Meeting Scholarship honorarium. Karthik will graduate from Carmel High School and plans to attend college in the fall to major in pre-medicine with aspirations of going to medical school to become a cardiologist or surgeon. Karthik decided to go into medicine after taking his first biology class during his freshman year. He stated, “I found biology interesting and thought medicine was a way for me to help others and make an impact in the world.”

In his essay submission, Karthik defines civic engagement as “actively participating in initiatives that contribute to the well-being of the community.”

When asked how the scholarship will benefit him, Karthik stated, “This scholarship will benefit me by helping me pay for college, which will also help me have a great future. Receiving this scholarship will help with my self-esteem and help me work towards my goals.”

Meet Erinn, a graduate of Bishop Chatard High School. Erin plans to attend Butler University in the fall to major in and minor in marketing. In her essay, Erin expressed her love for working with children and an interest in education because “there is not enough representation in the world, especially when it comes to teachers. So, I feel that changing the world starts with education, and if I can make a positive and impactful stamp on students’ lives, then we can better the communities we live in.”

In her essay submission, Erinn explains how she uses her leadership role, as Black Student Union Social Media Ambassador, to bring awareness of civic engagement to her peers “by combining technology to support the advancement of and inclusion.”

When asked how the Monster Meeting Scholarship will benefit her, Erinn replied, “The scholarship will help pay part of my college expenses and allow me to obtain my education degree.”
