This is Milo. He’s just a baby — not even a year old — but his little world has already been shattered.

Milo belonged to my next-door neighbor, an older gentleman who lived alone after his wife passed in 2021. He didn’t have much family left… but he had Milo. And that puppy was his joy, his routine, his reason to get out of bed every morning.

They were inseparable.

But on November 10, 2025, my neighbor suffered a sudden medical emergency and didn’t make it.

When his relatives flew in, they handled the house, the bank accounts, the furniture, the valuables — every last detail. A beautiful home worth almost half a million dollars… packed up in a single weekend.

But one thing they didn’t pack.

Milo.

They said he was “too much responsibility,” that their jobs were demanding, that they “didn’t have space for a dog.” And just like that… this sweet pitbull puppy was left behind. No plan. No goodbye. Just abandoned in the middle of the biggest loss of his young life.

I couldn’t let that happen.

I’ve lived next door for 20 years. I watched Milo grow from a wiggly little blue-gray pup into the gentle, loving baby he is. Taking him in isn’t charity — it feels like honoring my neighbor. It feels like doing right by both of them.

But Milo… he’s grieving.
He curls up on the blanket his owner used to rest his feet on.
He whimpers in his sleep.
He waits at the front door every time we walk past his old home, hoping the person he adored will come back.

He’s confused.
He’s hurting.
And he doesn’t understand why the world suddenly feels so empty.

I’m doing everything I can — comforting him, keeping him close, giving him love — but healing takes time… even for the purest souls.

So I’m asking you all:

How do you help a puppy heal from a loss he can’t understand?
How do you mend a heart that only knows love, loyalty, and the sound of the person he’s missing?

It’s purple day today honoring my niece who went to be with Jesus way too young. Samantha’s favorite color was purple.
