Just completed a Virtual Garden Lab for Angola Seed Exchange sponsored by Dani's Garden!

The Indoor Virtual Garden Lab on Companion Planting was incredible today. This group was so interactive, and curious. It makes learning feel like a true community experience. Every session reminds us how rewarding it is to grow together, share what we’ve learned, and discover new plant partnerships that make our gardens stronger.

We worked on Indoor Companion Planting: Tomatoes, Peppers, Chives or Onions, and Basil.

Here’s to more learning, more connection, and more “aha” moments in the soil.

When the Echo Returns: A Message for Parents Who Know That Sound Too Well

Do you ever hear it…?
That faint, familiar echo of your old eating disorder — not inside you this time, but in the air around your child’s struggles.

It’s the sound you hoped you’d never hear again.
The sound you prayed would end with you.
The sound that makes your stomach drop because you recognize it instantly.

That echo is not weakness.
It’s not fear.
It’s intuition — the kind that only a parent who has lived it can feel.

There is power in that echo.
Power in your knowing.
Power in your ability to see what others might miss.
Power in your courage to say, “Not this time. Not my child. Not on my watch.”

If your gut is whispering — or screaming — that something isn’t right…
You don’t have to navigate that alone.

Dani’s Garden supports families who are walking through the shadows of eating disorders, food struggles, and the emotional trauma that comes with them.

You deserve guidance.
Your child deserves support.
Your family deserves peace.

LISTEN™: The Parent Support Program Every Treatment Team Wishes They Had

We don’t talk enough about what actually happens when parents leave the treatment center parking lot.
They’re handed a discharge plan, a list of skills, and a child who is terrified, exhausted, and still healing.
And then we expect them to “just know” what to do next.

The truth?
Parents aren’t failing.
We’re failing them when we don’t give them real‑world support.

That’s why I built LISTEN™ — a trauma‑informed, 30‑day parent companion program that finally fills the gap between clinical treatment and daily life at home.

Here’s what people need to know:

1. Parents don’t need more information — they need translation.
LISTEN™ turns treatment language into real‑life scripts, routines, and responses parents can actually use at 7pm on a Tuesday when everything falls apart.

2. Eating‑disorder recovery is a family system process.
When caregivers feel regulated, confident, and supported, kids stabilize faster.
LISTEN™ strengthens the entire home environment, not just the identified patient.

3. Trauma‑informed support changes outcomes.
Parents learn how to respond without escalating shame, fear, or power struggles — especially during meals, transitions, and emotional spikes.

4. Treatment teams deserve a partner, not another burden.
LISTEN™ aligns with clinical goals, reinforces skills, and reduces the “crisis‑to‑crisis” cycle that burns out families and providers.

5. Families don’t need perfection. They need a plan.
And LISTEN™ gives them one — step‑by‑step, compassionate, and doable.

If you work in eating‑disorder treatment, school counseling, pediatrics, or family support…
LISTEN™ was built to make your job easier and your outcomes stronger.

If you want the overview, referral info, or a sample module, comment LISTEN below — I’ll send it your way.

Let’s make sure parents never have to navigate this alone again.

🌱 Read DG Magazine Article: What We’re Not Talking About Enough in Maternal Health

We talk a lot about prenatal vitamins.
We talk about ultrasounds.
We talk about “healthy pregnancy.”

But we rarely talk about how eating disorders impact fetal development — even though the research is clear, and the risks are real.

In our newest DG Magazine article, we break down what every clinician, educator, and community partner should know:

🔹 Fetal growth is directly tied to maternal nutrition and stress
🔹 Low birth weight, prematurity, and respiratory complications are more common when EDs go unrecognized
🔹 Binge‑eating disorder can also increase LGA outcomes
🔹 Malnutrition and hormonal disruption can influence miscarriage risk
🔹 Epigenetic changes may shape lifelong metabolic and mental health outcomes

This isn’t about fear.
It’s about awareness, early detection, and compassionate, multidisciplinary care.

Eating disorders don’t disappear during pregnancy — and families deserve providers who understand the full picture.

If you work in:
• Maternal health
• Pediatrics
• Behavioral health
• Community care
• Public health
• Social services

…this article is worth your time.

✨ DG Magazine is committed to trauma‑informed, science‑rooted education that strengthens families and communities.

Dani’s Garden Magazine — Volume 3, Issue 1 is here.

This issue goes deeper into conversations that are often overlooked, misunderstood, or avoided—and brings them into the light with care, research, and lived experience.

Inside this issue, you’ll find:

• An important article exploring the gap in GLP‑1 prescribing for eating disorder clients and why ethical, informed care matters

• A thoughtful discussion on pregnancy and eating disorders, supporting both parents and providers navigating complex realities

• A first look at our new programs, including LISTEN™ and The Danielle Method—designed to meet people where they are with safety, compassion, and structure

• A staff spotlight on Darrin Harpenau, highlighting the heart, expertise, and dedication behind the work we do at Dani’s Garden

This magazine reflects what we believe at our core: healing happens when we ask better questions, include families, and build care that adapts to real life—not the other way around.

Whether you’re a clinician, parent, advocate, or someone quietly searching for answers, this issue was created with intention—and with you in mind.

Clinicians, we need to talk about the moment before treatment begins.
Because that moment—the one where a caregiver is overwhelmed, dysregulated, or terrified of “getting it wrong”—is quietly shaping every outcome we hope for.

And that’s exactly why we built the LISTEN™ Program at Dani’s Garden.

LISTEN™ is not another parent class.
It’s a 30‑day, trauma‑informed caregiver readiness protocol designed to stabilize the environment before we ever ask a child to stabilize their behavior.

Because you and I both know:
No intervention works if the nervous system receiving it is in survival mode.

What clinicians are seeing:
- Fewer escalations during transitions
- More consistent follow‑through at home
- Caregivers who finally understand the why behind the child’s behaviors
- Reduced readmission risk
- A smoother handoff between levels of care

This is the part that keeps getting shared in our clinician groups:
LISTEN™ doesn’t replace your work—it amplifies it.

Why it works
LISTEN™ blends:
- Polyvagal‑informed caregiver coaching
- Micro‑lessons that take 3 minutes a day
- Scripts for high‑stress moments
- Sensory‑friendly home routines
- A predictable, compassionate structure that caregivers can actually sustain

It’s the first program built to support the continuity of care clinicians have been begging for.

Clinicians keep saying:
“THIS is what we’ve been missing.”
“Parents finally understand what we’re doing in session.”
“My caseload feels lighter because the home environment is calmer.”

If you’re a clinician who wants:
- Better outcomes
- Fewer crisis resets
- Caregivers who feel confident instead of ashamed
- A program that aligns with trauma‑informed, non‑pathologizing care

Then LISTEN™ is the bridge you’ve been waiting for.

Parents, can I ask you something gentle?

When your child is struggling with food, what’s the hardest part for you — the part no one prepared you for?

Not the part you talk about at appointments.
Not the part you say when someone asks, “How’s treatment going?”
I mean the part you carry quietly.

Is it…
- Trying to support meals without becoming the “food police”?
- Feeling terrified you’ll say the wrong thing?
- Watching them hurt and not knowing how to help?
- Feeling alone because no one around you understands eating disorders?
- Wondering if you’re doing enough — or too much?

You’re not alone in any of that.
Parents deserve support, education, and a place to breathe too.

That’s exactly why we created LISTEN™ — a gentle, science‑rooted program that helps parents understand the ED voice, communicate without shame or fear, and feel confident supporting recovery at home.

If you’re open to it, share below:
What’s one thing you wish someone had told you at the beginning of this journey?

When your child is struggling with an eating disorder, love alone doesn’t always feel like enough.

Many parents tell us:

“I’m trying so hard—but everything I say seems to make it worse.”

Eating disorders are not about food. They are about fear, control, overwhelm, identity, and unspoken pain. When parents don’t have a shared language for what’s happening internally, connection can quietly break down—even in the most loving homes.

That’s why we created LISTEN™.

LISTEN™ is a parent-centered framework designed to help families:

Understand what eating disorder behaviors are communicating, not just what they look like

Respond with curiosity instead of correction

Replace power struggles with presence

Create emotional safety so healing conversations can begin

LISTEN™ helps parents move from:

“Why won’t you just eat?”

to “Help me understand what eating feels like right now.”

When children feel heard, they don’t have to use symptoms to speak.
Parents are not the problem—and they are not powerless. With the right tools, families can become one of the most stabilizing forces in recovery.

If you’re a parent trying to support a child or teen with an eating disorder, you don’t have to navigate this alone.

Understanding changes everything.

💚 Connection is a clinical intervention.
💚 Listening is a form of care.

“If I just say the right thing, this will get better.”
That’s one of the heaviest myths parents carry.
Recovery isn’t about perfect words.
It’s about safety, consistency, and nervous‑system support—especially during meals and hard moments at home.
Many parents tell us:

“I replay everything I said afterward.”
“I’m afraid one wrong sentence will undo progress.”
“I don’t know when to push and when to pause.”

LISTEN™ was created to take parents off that edge.
In this 30‑day parent support program, caregivers learn how to:
✔ Respond without escalating fear or power struggles
✔ Stay grounded when emotions run high
✔ Support recovery without walking on eggshells
✔ Understand what’s actually happening beneath the behavior

You need tools that work in real life.
