Today, we honor Juneteenth, the day freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

At Volume, we believe dance is more than movement. It is a way to tell stories, preserve history, celebrate culture, and inspire change. Many of the dance styles we teach and love today have roots in the creativity, resilience, and contributions of Black artists and communities.

As we celebrate freedom, we also celebrate the voices, artistry, and achievements of those who came before us and those who continue to shape our future.

Today, we encourage our dancers and families to learn, reflect, celebrate, and continue building a world where every child has the freedom to dream, create, and thrive.

The MJ Intensive begins tomorrow! Hee hee!😛

When a child takes a dance class, she grows in confidence, discipline, and self-expression.

When her mother takes a dance class, she gains a deeper understanding of the journey.

She experiences firsthand how challenging dance can be—physically, mentally, and emotionally. She learns the courage it takes to perform, the value of corrections, and the persistence required to keep improving.

Through dance, both mother and child gain something special: a shared appreciation for the hard work, growth, and joy that happen inside the studio. 💙💜💚
