⛳️ Sultan’s Run Showdown Recap - Sep 5th! ⛳️
What a day at Sultan’s Run yesterday! This tournament was a joint event between our Indianapolis Tour and the Indiana-Western KY Tour, and we were thrilled to welcome players representing 16 different tours from across the country as we set the tone and built momentum for the French Lick Regional action ahead.
A massive thank you to all the players who came out to compete, and a big shoutout to the staff at Sultan’s Run Golf Club—the course was in phenomenal shape! Weather threw us a curveball with an early lightning delay, but everyone hung in there. Fading daylight ultimately forced us to halt play for the C and D flights after 14 holes, so those completed 14 holes were used to keep the competition fair and official.
Here is how the leaderboard stacked up across each flight:
Champ Flight
David Wachter from our Indianapolis Tour put on a masterclass performance by firing an impressive 3-under 69 to take home the top spot. He built a comfortable cushion over the rest of the field, with Kent George (Indiana-Western KY) and Joe Goldschmidt (Cincinnati/Dayton) finishing tied for second place after both posting solid rounds of 74.
A Flight
The A Flight delivered a tight contest at the top, where Brandon Kyong representing North Florida claimed victory with a strong round of 75. Dean Weathers (Indianapolis) and Chris Poetz (St. Louis) finished as runners-up, matching each other shot-for-shot to tie for second place with rounds of 80.
B Flight
In the B Flight, Rob McAvene held strong for the Indianapolis Tour to capture the win with a round of 78. He managed to hold off Rick Wigginton (Indiana-Western KY), who finished two strokes back in second place with an 80, while Bryce Mozzone (Indianapolis) secured third place with an 81.
C Flight
The C Flight saw Paxton Divine (Indiana-Western KY) navigate the shortened 14-hole format brilliantly, recording a 67 to claim first place. Aaron Lorenz (Tidewater) finished just one shot behind in second place with a 68, and Daniel VanMeter (St. Louis) rounded out the top three with a 69.
D Flight
In the D Flight, Fritz Gerbsch earned a victory for Indianapolis by carding a 72 across the 14 completed holes. Mike Miller (Milwaukee) locked up second place with a 75, while Danny Van meter (St. Louis) took third place after finishing with a 79.
Congratulations to all our flight winners and top finishers! Good luck to everyone competing in the rest of the Regional weekend.
