e, perfectly prepared. From the golf course to the tennis courts to the swimming pools, here, you are at home, comfortable and secure. This is Woodstock Club, a place quite unlike any other in Indiana. And for those fortunate enough to belong, it is a continuing tale of hospitality, family tradition and value. Even before there was a Woodstock Club, this picturesque property was a golfer's haven. In 1896, four enterprising gentlemen laid out two holes of golf on land that is now included in the Club. They followed that very short course the next year with one of the first nine-hole courses west of the Appalachians. The fun and challenging 9-hole course of today was redesigned in 1999. It boasts wonderful greens, a PGA professional staff and devilish par 4s. The bentgrass course is heavily populated with mature trees and maintained with pride and professionalism. Men's, women's and couples' events contribute to a fun summer social and sports calendar, and the active Junior Golf program ensures the golfing tradition of Woodstock Club into the future. When Indianapolis was much smaller, when tennis whites were de rigueur, Woodstock Club was already building its national reputation as a premier tennis venue. In the 1920's, its seven clay courts became home to the Western Open. In 1969 it was appointed host to the U.S. Clay Court Championships. In 1972 Woodstock introduced paddle (platform tennis) to the city. Today, eight tennis courts, two aluminum paddle tennis courts, a warming hut and tennis house reflect the enduring value of tennis - both recreational and competitive in the life of the Club. In 1927, the first pool at Woodstock Club was set amid formal terraces, making it the perfect classically styled setting for a nighttime exhibition by eight Olympic swimmers in 1929. Today, the scene is both more relaxing and more robust, with three pools offering one have for young children, another for youthful rough and tumble,
and an Olympic sized pool bringing everyone together for exercise and activity. Youngsters train and compete in active interclub rivalry,
adults swim fitness laps and the generations mingle in poolside leisure. From its inception, Woodstock Club embraced children and families with an early president proclaiming the Club "a center of social activity for young people"
That family friendly quality continues today, echoing through the annual Independence Day celebration where games and competitions, a picnic dinner on the manicured grounds, music and extravagant fireworks, even skydivers, lend a refined carnival atmosphere. It resonates in the kids and dads campout, the Faerie Queen Ball when the youngest ladies are escorted by fathers and grandfathers, and a host of events that create in children of the Woodstock family an ease with things gracious and social. The nine founders of Woodstock Club shared a vision, a sensibility, a prosperity that defined the new organization as uniquely refined, exclusive and elegant. Today, the Club remains all those things and more. Refinement is enhanced by a competitive spirit, exclusivity moderated by diversity and inclusion, elegance tempered with relaxation and comfort. Over 100 years after its charter solicitation, Woodstock remains a desirable and welcoming spot, conveniently situated, devoted to excellence, committed to continuing its legacy through the 21st Century.
Denis has been with Woodstock since December, 2004, and came from the Country Club of Columbus, in Columbus, Georgia. His cooking style is classical French, although he enjoys many international influences in his cooking.
Before joining the Country Club of Columbus, Denis worked for the Ritz Carlton organization as the Executive Chef of the World Trade Center in Atlanta. Prior to coming to the United States, Denis spent four years in London with The Lord's Cricket Ground and the Hispaniola, a restaurant ship permanently moored on the River Thames. While in London, he continued his education, acquiring Advanced French Pastry and Food Hygiene certifications.
Denis is a native of Ireland and has recently become a U.S. citizen.
