Sometimes a move away brings other things closer.
In my first year of coaching, I met Lisa Whitman.
She is deeply inquisitive, loves cheering for others and shines like a light in any room she enters. And she is the brilliant mind behind Digital Stories Media Group.
I knew that moving away from Indy would decrease the frequency with which I saw friends and acquaintances from the area...well most of them. With Lisa, ours has increased. Her husband grew up in Northern Michigan, her family loves to ski at Boyne and lucky me, I’m the one friend she has up here.
Last week I brought a salad, she made chicken and we sat on the dock outside her husband’s family’s cottage on Walloon Lake and caught up. It was like salve for the soul.
Moving away from Indy didn’t shut the door on old friendships, it just made room for some to grow in ways I didn’t expect.
My friendship with Lisa is proof: sometimes distance from one thing is exactly what brings another closer.
