Inverness Renshinkan Karate

A large class last night. We focused on kicking drills. Kicking with good form. Then stamina drills. Next kicking shields for power. Finaly we used clapper targets for precision. Front, round, side, jumping double front, back spinning side, back spinning hook. Everyone was sweaty and winded but still smiling. I love how several students stay on the floor after class still working on things.

What a great weekend! A 3 day seminar with Kyoshi Hannu of Finland going over many different aspects of Renshinkan Karate. We had Bo kata with bunkai on Friday, a deep dive into Wanshu kata on Saturday, and Sunday was locks and thows, followed by kumite pad work. We ended the day with testing. Both Andrew and Kevin did well and had to fight through 3 opponents in full bogu kumite to finish the test. A very exciting way to end the weekend. Thank you to Kyoshi Hannu for coming to teach and to sensei Eli for hosting the seminar.

Happy New Year! The dojo will reopen on Monday 1/5/2026. It's been a good year but 2026 will be even better. We had 4 promotions in 2025 with Decklan the last, finally making his 5th kyu.

We had a nice, sweaty class last night. New student Luke got his first taste of Renshinkan. My old student Johnathon is in town visiting family and we got him on the floor. People might remember Johnathon as the student who could strike and kick with karate, but bob and weave with his boxing skills. I mixed a boxing drill in at the end of class to leave everyone pumped. Renshinkan Family!

The Dojo will be open on Monday 12/22 and Monday 12/29. We will be closed on Wednesday and Friday 12/24, 12/26, 12/31, and 1/2/26.

Its that time of year again! Christmas party time! Our annual Christmas party is this Saturday 12/20, at 4pm. Everyone is welcome. Some eggnog, some pizza, and a Jackie Chan movie. A time for our Dojo families to enjoy a meal and relax. I love doing this every year, our Dojo families are so cool! Awsome people! Merry Christmas!

Last nights Halloween party was a big success. I had students, in costume, doing kata with a weight vest, wrist and ankle weights. They had to be very careful in their movements. Nurf target practice, pizza, 70th Birthday cake for Butch, lots of laughs. Thank you to everyone for coming out. My wife Jessica even made it!

The Halloween party is tonight! Some pizza, and some Birthday cake for sensei Butch! Best costume gets a cash prize! Hope to see everybody there. Lets have some fun!

Renshinkan Karate showed up strong for the Kickin It for Kids Cancer tournament this weekend.

Big thank you to sensei Eli, sensei Maddie, and sensei Trevor for a great tournament on Saturday. Hall of Martial Arts dojo, in Gainesville, is our home away from home and all my students are very comfortable there. Everyone involved did a fantastic job. I love seeing the improvements in everyone's performance over the months and years.
