It’s never easy losing someone who helped lay the foundation of what we built, but today we honor a truly special member of our family.
Joe Gevock—known to us in the ring as “Farmer”—was with our Rocksteady Boxing program right from the very start. Born on April 2, 1947, Joe grew up as the eldest of seven on his family’s farm, instilling in him a quiet work ethic, grit, and toughness that followed him everywhere. He went on to earn his accounting degree from the University of Iowa in 1971, spent 43 years as a dedicated CPA, and built a beautiful life centered around his faith and his loving family.
Beyond the gym, Joe loved Hawkeye wrestling, Chicago Cubs baseball, collecting Studebakers, researching ancestry, and enjoying a good cup of coffee (or McDonald’s). But inside our doors, “Farmer” was a constant source of heart, strength, and pure joy. He was an absolute pleasure to be around at all times, bringing a spirit that reminded everyone around him why we fight.
Our hearts and prayers are with his amazing wife, Gail—one of the sweetest and strongest people you’ll ever meet—who shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with Joe, as well as their daughters Laura and Linda, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
If there is one thing Joe would want us to take away from his life, it’s his unwavering positivity and his unstoppable strength. Joe will always be missed, but his fight, his warmth, and his spirit will forever remain a part of our ICOR Rocksteady Boxing family.
Rest easy, Farmer. We’ll take it from here. 🥊❤️
